Post-merger integration and subsidiary roles in Chinese MNCs – the case of Chinese M&As in Germany
Purpose This paper adds to the literature on outward Foreign Direct Investments by Chinese Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in advanced economies. Its objective is threefold: to characterize the subsidiary roles that advanced economy targets of Chinese Multinational Corporations (CMNC) takeovers typically adopt, to assess the position that these subsidiary roles grant them within the CMNCs as a whole and to flesh out how subsidiary actors percei…
Interest representation in transnational labour markets
This article addresses the challenges connected with interest representation in transnational labour markets. It draws on an in-depth case study of the labour market that matches Eastern European workers to jobs in the German meat industry. This labour market has emerged under the European Union Posted Workers Directive. The posting regime has entailed dumping wages and extreme exploitation in the German meat industry. The German Food Workers Uni…
Theorizing transnational labour markets

Introduction to the special theme
In this introduction to the special themed section, 'Theorizing transnational labour markets: economic-sociological approaches', I introduce the reader to the topic and give an overview of the four contributions. The terms 'global labour market' and 'transnational labour market' are broadly used to account for contemporary social phenomena as diverse as the ever-closer integration of China or India, with their huge labour forces, into the world e…
Der „Globalmanager“ als neuer Managertypus? / The „Global Manager“ as a New Manager Type

Soziale Welt is one of the important journals within German sociology and is even read in foreign countries. It includes empirical and theoretical contributions from all areas of the subject and tries to portray the development of sociology and to give a new impetus. In addition to the quarterly published issues, there are special issues with a unified theme
