    Open Access•Sookeung Jung, Eun-Jeung Lee•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Political Science•2026•References: 6

Introduction What does democracy require to survive authoritarian threats? While Hermann Heller prescribed social homogeneity, John Dewey emphasized communicative infrastructure, and contemporary scholarship highlights institutional checks by citizen mobilization, these frameworks struggle to explain how citizens rapidly recognize threats, forge solidarity across differences, and sustain commitment through uncertainty. This study examines democra…

    Seo‐Young Cho, D Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Korea Observer - Institute of…•2023

This study investigates public perceptions of South Korea in Europe empirically through a survey. Furthermore, we find evidence of undervaluation, as South Korea is often regarded as a developing country witho…

    Eun-Jeung Lee•ARTICLE•Korea Observer - Institute of…•2019

The course of history shows that democracy has succeeded in flourishing in mass society, and has been able to do so to this day. The popular masses battle cries against colonial overlords and authoritarian rulers have helped democracy mature and grow stronger. It is the very voice of the popular masses filling public streets and squares that has constantly reminded the citizens of mass society that is it them who are the bearers of sovereign powe…

    Eun-Jeung Lee•CHAPTER•Ostasien denken•2015

    Open Access•Eun-Jeung Lee•CHAPTER•Dynamics in the History of…•2012

The encounter between Europe and East Asia that began during the European Enlightenment left its mark in Europe as well as in East Asia. This chapter exemplifies this encounter in the thought of two thinkers, namely Christian Wolff (1679-1754) and Chŏng Yag-yong (1762-1836). Both Christian Wolff and Chŏng Yag-yong were greatly impressed by Matteo Ricci's writings on China, Confucianism and, respectively, on European religion, philosophy and scien…
