  • How can academic health science centers help to increase diversity in the STEM professions

Open Access•Mary Moore, Mary B Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2024

In the United States, great inequities exist within the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields in individuals who self-identify as belonging to underrepresented groups (e.g., from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, people with disabilities, and Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander). Underrepresentation in STEM careers has been documented to be due…

  • The Central Group in the Gigantomachy of the Old Athena Temple on the Acropolis

    Mary B Moore•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•1995•Cited by: 2

Recent examination of the preserved sculpture from the Gigantomachy pediment of the Old Athena Temple on the Athenian Acropolis has shown that a frontal chariot team occupied the center. Two fragmentary horses belong to the team and, judging from what remains, they are a pole horse and a trace horse, thus proving that the team was a quadriga, not a biga. Stähler suggested that Zeus stood in the chariot, but did not speculate upon the presence of …

  • Attic Black-Figured Pottery

Martin F Kilmer, Mary B Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Phoenix•1990•Cited by: 4

This volume is the first of the Athenian Agora reports to deal specifically with figured wares; it is concerned with the black-figured pottery found in the excavations in the Athenian Agora between 1931 and 1967, most of it in dumped fill especially in wells and cisterns. These deposits have been published separately in previous reports; by presenting them as a body, the authors are able to show how it complements and supplements the existing chr…

  • Athena and Herakles on Exekias' Calyx-Krater

    Mary B Moore•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•1986

Recent examination by the author of the calyx-krater by Exekias found in the North Slope Excavations of the Athenian Agora in 1937 revealed that, in the scene of the Introduction of Herakles to Olympos, the hero did not stand on the ground beside the chariot as previously thought, but in the vehicle beside Athena. At the very top of the breastwork there is part of a hand holding onto it, and since the hand is glazed black, not painted white, it c…

  • The West Frieze of the Siphnian Treasury: A new Reconstruction

  • Exekias and Telamonian Ajax

    Mary B Moore•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•1980•Cited by: 2

Homer tells us that next to Achilles, among all the Greeks at Troy, Telamonian Ajax ranks second. Given Ajax's key role in some of the most significant episodes in the Trojan War, it is odd that he appears so seldom in Attic vase painting. Among all the vase painters, only Exekias takes a special interest in Ajax. This article examines the Ajax scenes by Exekias, compares them with others of the period, and attempts to explain Exekias' interest i…

  • Lydos and the Gigantomachy

    Mary B Moore•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•1979•Cited by: 6

Among the many painted representations of the Gigantomachy, the most comprehensive black-figured example is the one painted on the dinos signed by Lydos and dedicated on the Akropolis. But, because this vase is so fragmentary, the composition of the Gigantomachy has not received the attention it deserves. Examination of the fragments and comparison with other Gigantomachies, particularly some on Akropolis vases, allow us to make reconstruction dr…
