Recent examination by the author of the calyx-krater by Exekias found in the North Slope Excavations of the Athenian Agora in 1937 revealed that, in the scene of the Introduction of Herakles to Olympos, the hero did not stand on the ground beside the chariot as previously thought, but in the vehicle beside Athena. At the very top of the breastwork there is part of a hand holding onto it, and since the hand is glazed black, not painted white, it can only be that of Herakles. Parallels for the composition are offered, as is an outline drawing that tries to show how the missing part of the composition may have looked when the krater was intact
