    Open Access•J Roche, Gillian L Barber et al.•ARTICLE•Museum Management and Curatorship•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 27

Museum staff strive to create environments rich in opportunity for visitors to explore their relationship with their heritage, culture, art, or science. Their unique expertise in communicating and creating educational spaces are critical to the field of informal learning. Museum staff possess wide-ranging capabilities across various forms of communication, but many organisations do not employ specialist research staff whose day-to-day work includ…

  • Science Communication Through STEAM

    Open Access•J Roche, Laura Bell et al.•ARTICLE•Science Communication•2021•References: 24

STEAM is the term given to a growing field of research and practice that integrates arts into traditional science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects. It is also the name of a science communication summer school that has evolved from a conventional in-person professional development opportunity to a blended informal science learning space with a flipped classroom approach. This article charts that development and includes perspecti…

  • Welfare Costs of Catastrophes

    Open Access•Ian Martins, Ian W R Martin et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 1

Most of the literature on the economics of catastrophes assumes that such events cause a reduction in the stream of consumption, as opposed to widespread fatalities. Here we show how to incorporate death in a model of catastrophe avoidance, and how a catastrophic loss of life can be expressed as a welfare-equivalent drop in consumption. We examine how potential fatalities affect the policy interdependence of catastrophic events and ‘willingness t…

  • Counselor Educators' Experiences Preparing Preservice School Counselors

    Open Access•Jennifer Scaturo Watkinson, Emily Goodman‐scott et al.•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 21

The authors conducted a phenomenological study to explore the experiences of 32 school counselor educators preparing preservice school counselors. Analysis of data from 3 focus groups revealed 3 themes: breadth versus depth, balancing specialties and professor partiality, and preparation versus practice. These results highlight the need for collaboration across counseling specialties at the preservice level

  • On the Valuation of Long-Dated Assets

Ian Martins, Ian Martin•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•2012•References: 3

I show that the pricing of a broad class of long-dated assets is driven by the possibility of extraordinarily bad news. This result does not depend on any assumptions about the existence of disasters, nor does it apply only to assets that hedge bad outcomes; indeed, it applies even to long-dated claims on the market in a lognormal world if the market's Sharpe ratio is higher than its volatility, as appears to be the case in practice

  • The East Timor Question

Donald E Weatherbee, Paul Hainsworth et al.•ARTICLE•Pacific Affairs•2002

  • Collaboration between schools and community education agencies in tackling social exclusion

Lyn Tett, Pamela Munn et al.•ARTICLE•Research Papers in Education•2001

This paper describes the nature of the joint initiatives taking place between primary and secondary schools in Scotland and community education providers in local authorities and the voluntary sector, as reported on by the schools themselves. It details the characteristics of the relatively few schools which had strong links with their communities in terms of provision, collaboration and participation in decision making. Ten case-study schools an…

  • Haiti

Open Access•Ian Martins, Ian Martin•ARTICLE•Journal of Latin American Studies•1999

The objective is clear: to reinstate the legitimate President in his functions and ensure his maintenance in power until the end of his mandate. The question which is posed is to know how to achieve this objective: international force or national compromise? - Boutros Boutros-Ghali, UN Secretary-General
