  • Modular reality

Michael Palumbo, Alexander Zonta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of New Music Research•2020

Despite decades of virtual reality (VR) research, current creative workflows remain far from VR founder Jaron Lanier’s musically inspired dream of collaboratively ‘improvising reality’ from within. Drawing inspiration from modular synthesis as a distinctive musically immersed culture and practice, this article presents a new environment for visual programming within VR that supports live, fine-grained, multi-artist collaboration, through a new fr…

  • On the Relationships Between Real Consumption, Income, and Wealth

Michael Palumbo, Jeremy B Rudd et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2006

Many studies relate real nondurables and services consumption to real income and wealth, with the latter measures obtained by deflating with a price index for total consumption expenditures. We develop an alternative approach that exploits the fact that the ratio of these…

  • Precautionary Saving and Social Learning Across Generations

Open Access•T Parker Ballinger, Michael Palumbo et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2003•Cited by: 3•References: 32

We use experimental methods to study how individuals solve life cycle 'precautionary savings' tasks. Some results resemble previous experimental work on dynamic optimisation tasks. Within our experiment, however, opportunities exist for subjects to learn from one another. Subjects participated in three-member 'families'. Second and third 'generation' subjects observe and/or communicate with their 'antecedent' first or second generation subject. W…

  • German-Italian Military Relations on the Eve of World War I

    Open Access•Michael Palumbo•ARTICLE•Central European History•1979

There can be little doubt that the German military leadership played an important role in the events leading up to the outbreak of World War I. Although there may be some disagreement as to the extent of the general staff's influence, its assessment of the European situation is known to have carried great weight in the decision-making councils in Berlin. Much significant research has been done on the activities of the German military hierarchy in…
