  • Informing landfill emission reporting programs through remote sensing

Open Access•Katherine Howell, Tia R Scarpelli et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2026

Landfills are a significant source of anthropogenic methane emissions. Governments and operators rely on models with process and waste characterization assumptions to quantify emissions, assess management strategies like gas collection systems, and set reduction targets. However, validating these models through atmospheric measurements is difficult given the variability of landfill emissions and the challenge of sampling a diverse range of sites.…

  • A policy paradox

    Cali L Anicha, Canan Bilen-Green et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Gender Studies•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 8

Even in contexts of gender parity, people who identify as men comprise a modest to bare majority; in administrative and other leadership positions, men comprise a broad majority and are thereby unavoidably a plurality of those involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion centred policy change efforts. Paradoxically, men’s advocacy for gender-equity often unintentionally conveys gendered biases. We therefore assert that the development of conscien…

  • The Sadness of Eparchius Avitus (Sidonius, Carm . 7.519-21)

    Open Access•Roger Green•ARTICLE•The Classical Quarterly•2016

In his panegyric of Avitus, his father-in-law, the poet Sidonius gives a vivid and often detailed picture of the career of the future emperor from his boyhood until he gained the supreme power in the West in the year 455, which he owed to his ability and accomplishments in warfare, diplomacy and administration. He also enjoyed strong support from both Goths and Gauls, and his repeated success in managing the volatility and the aspirations of the …

  • Did Damasus Write the Carmen Contra Paganos ? The Evidence of Et

    Open Access•Roger Green•ARTICLE•The Classical Quarterly•2016•References: 6

In Alan Cameron's long-awaited and epoch-making study The Last Pagans of Rome , a typically erudite and stimulating chapter is devoted to the anonymous poem generally known today as Carmen contra paganos ( CCP ), written in the late fourth or (some have argued) early fifth century. This poem (of 122 lines)—of which the text is still in many places uncertain, in spite of a wealth of critical attention from the time when it was brought fully to lig…

  • Qualitative Research and Social Change

Open Access•W Fitzgibbon, Pat Cox et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Qualitative Research and Social…•2008

This chapter concerns the effectiveness in practice of the current pre-occupation with risk assessment in criminal justice and social services. It examines aspects of the new orientation towards risk and the effects this has had in the probation service and in social work, both of which have moved away from traditional casework methods towards various methodologies of risk assessment. The dynamics of this shift are now well-known (Kemshall, 2003;…

  • The Marine ΔR for Nenumbo (Solomon Islands)

Open Access•Martin Jones, Fiona Petchey et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2007•Cited by: 13•References: 9

It is necessary to calculate location-specific marine ΔR values in order to calibrate marine samples using calibration curves such as those provided through the IntCal98 (Stuiver et al. 1998) data. Where known-age samples are available, this calculation is straightforward (i.e. Stuiver et al. 1986). In the case that a paired marine/terrestrial sample calculation is performed, however, the standard calculation (i.e. Stuiver and Braziunas 1993) req…

  • Use of Three Isotopes to Calibrate Human Bone Radiocarbon Determinations from Kainapirina (SAC), Watom Island, Papua New Guinea

    Open Access•Fiona Petchey, Roger Green•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2005•Cited by: 8•References: 33

In archaeological dating, the greatest confidence is usually placed upon radiocarbon results of material that can be directly related to a defined archaeological event. Human bone should fulfill this requirement, but bone dates obtained from Pacific sites are often perceived as problematic due to the incorporation of 14 C from a range of different reservoirs into the collagen via diet. In this paper, we present new human bone gelatin results for …

  • Markets, Management, and “Reengineering” Higher Education

    Open Access•Roger Green•ARTICLE•The Annals of the American…•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 17

Recent years have witnessed a variety of efforts to reengineer higher education into closer alignment with market principles and management approaches drawn from business. However, critical debates on these efforts typically fail to discern a number of significant issues. Many such reengineering efforts involve an intermingling of three distinctively different organizational paradigms: a professional paradigm characteristic of traditional higher …
