Lorna Stabler, Mthoko Ngobese Sampson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Children s Services•2026

  • Contextual factors influencing the implementation of an innovation in child protection services in England: A qualitative analysis using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research

Open Access•Jo Day, Sarah O’Rourke et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2025•References: 27

New ways of working in children’s social care have the potential to improve outcomes for children and families but we know little about how best to implement such innovations, particularly in complex contexts such as child protection. We present the findings of a qualitative study exploring social care professionals’ perceptions of the contextual factors influencing the introduction of Safeguarding Family Group Conferences (SFGCs) in England. Our…

We explore the views of managers' knowledge needs and use to optimise care practices and enhance the life experience for older people living, and staff working, in long-term care homes (with and without nursing). This paper contributes to previous research by offering insights into the knowledge types drawn upon and used by managers to inform efforts to better support gaining and mobilising knowledge. Using a pragmatic qualitative approach, we un…

  • Faltering Complexity? The Context and Character of Settlement at Priniatikos Pyrgos in Early Minoan III–Middle Minoan IA East Crete

Barry Molloy, Molloy Molloy et al.•ARTICLE•Hesperia The Journal of the…•2020•Cited by: 1

This study presents the preliminary results of new excavations of Early Minoan III–Middle Minoan IA horizons at Priniatikos Pyrgos in East Crete. It argues that there is cumulative growth at this central settlement throughout the Early Minoan and earliest Middle Minoan phases that is mirrored in the surrounding settled landscape, but that this changed dramatically during the latter phase with declining prosperity at the site. To explore this, the…

  • The Routledge Handbook of Sensory Archaeology

Robin Skeates, Jo Day•BOOK•Routledge Handbook of Sensory…•2019

"Through a study of the port district of Rio de Janeiro and its history, from its emergence as a major slave market to its modern-day incarnation as a hub of tourism, real-estate and financial speculation, this book examines the different dimensions of the manner in which capitalism expands its global process of accumulation to incorporate spaces not yet integrated into chains of value production. As such, it sheds new light on the use of explici…

  • What is the nature and value of a risk management tool in a large-scale complex programme of collaborative applied health research

    Jo Day, J Heaton et al.•ARTICLE•Health Risk & Society•2016

In this article we examine a risk management tool that was used in a pilot programme of applied health research in the south-west of England funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). During a wider internal evaluation of the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care for the South West Peninsula, we became interested in how risk was being defined and managed in the programme. Our search of the empiric…

The program was one of the nine pilot Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care funded by the English National Institute for Health Research between 2008 and 2013. Barry Molloy, Jo Day et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•2014•Cited by: 14•References: 34

In 2010, a portion of a well-preserved domestic building dating to the later part of Early Minoan (EM) I was excavated at Priniatikos Pyrgos, east Crete. Though only a small portion of this house was available to investigate, there was clear evidence for several architectural and habitation phases. The final domestic activities were particularly well preserved because the building was deliberately destroyed in an event that included burning. Ther…

  • Counting Threads. Saffron in Aegean Bronze Age Writing and Society

    Open Access•Jo Day•ARTICLE•Oxford Journal of Archaeology•2011•Cited by: 1•References: 31

The ideogram for saffron has long been recognized on the Linear B tablets from Knossos. Close examination of this corpus allows a distinction in content to be made between the LM II–LM IIIA1 tablets of the Room of the Chariot Tablets and the later LM IIIA1–2 tablets from the North Entrance Passage. It is suggested here that the later material demonstrates an increasing control over saffron production by the palace, with a greater overall quantity…
