  • A Silver River in a Silver World: Dutch Trade in the Rio de la Plata, 1648–1678

    Open Access•David Freeman•BOOK•Silver River in a Silver World•2020

Drawing on a wide and rich array of sources, this book explores the nature and extent of Dutch trade and commerce in the Río de la Plata during three decades of the least-studied century (1650–1750) of Spain's rule in the Americas. In doing so, it raises important questions about trade in colonial South America and how it was impacted by the Dutch, suggesting that these transactions were carried out within the confines of the law, contradicting c…

  • Creating Emotion in Games: The Craft and Art of Emotioneering

David Freeman, David E Freeman•BOOK•Creating emotion in games•2003

Why put emotion into games? The answers are art and money. Sure, it's an unholy alliance, but so are pineapple and pizza, windmills and tiny golf courses, the military and intelligence, and canned fruit and gelatin molds. Don't get me wrong. I think of myself as an artist first and a businessman second. But game companies that don't make a profit aren't game companies for very long. There are at least nine reasons that putting emotion in games ca…
