Beyond White Caricatures and Portrayals
This chapter will deconstruct how white supremacist portrayals of Asian Americans in media, research, and societal discourse have shaped oppressive stereotypes that exist and extend into the mental health context regarding Asian American therapists. The discussion will focus on self-of-the-therapist development for Asian American therapists and highlight the contributions these therapists make to the field of mental health, particularly through l…
A Social Media‒Based Public Health Campaign Encouraging Covid-19 Vaccination Across the United States
Tailored public health messaging encouraging COVID-19 vaccination may help increase vaccination rates and decrease the burden of COVID-19. We conducted a three-part COVID-19 vaccine uptake public health campaign disseminated on Facebook between April and June 2021. Our first campaign focused on reaching Black and Latinx communities; our second campaign focused on addressing vaccine access and scheduling in Latinx communities; and our third campai…
If not for this support, I would have left the treatment
Social support has been identified as a significant factor in addressing treatment barriers and facilitating treatment adherence. Using a descriptive design, this qualitative study aims at sharing personal feelings and social support-related experiences among pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients in Western India. A semi-structured interview guide was designed, and thirty-seven in-depth interviews were conducted. Descriptive thematic analysis was …
Artificial Intelligence Model of Drive-Through Vaccination Simulation
Planning for mass vaccination against SARS-Cov-2 is ongoing in many countries considering that vaccine will be available for the general public in the near future. Rapid mass vaccination while a pandemic is ongoing requires the use of traditional and new temporary vaccination clinics. Use of drive-through has been suggested as one of the possible effective temporary mass vaccinations among other methods. In this study, we present a machine learni…
Determinants of physical and global functioning in adult HIV-positive heterosexual men
Little is known about the psychosocial factors that might impact the functioning ability of heterosexual men living with HIV. Study participants were primarily minority and low …
Mapping the Dynamism of the United States' Geopolitical Code
The changing geographical foci of the geopolitical code of the United States are examined by a content analysis of the presidential State of the Union Speeches between 1988 and 2008, the last year of President Reagan's term through the presidency of George W. Bush. The State of the Union speeches are interpreted as geopolitical discourse within a structural setting, using seven foreign-policy paradigms as an organising framework. The empirical fi…

Published Studies of Interrater Reliability Often Overestimate Reliability
It is erroneous to generalize the interrater reliability coefficient estimated from two or more raters rating only a (small) portion of the sample to the rest of the sample data for which only one rater is used for scoring, although such generalization is often made implicitly in practice. If the interrater reliability estimate from part of a sample is available, the score reliability for the rest of the sample data for which only one rater is us…

The Effects of Ability Grouping on the Ethnic Achievement Gap in Israeli Elementary Schools
This study examined the achievement levels in arithmetic and verbal proficiency of over 2,000 grade 6 students in 24 Israeli elementary schools. The analysis employed a hierarchical linear regression model to estimate the size of the achievement gap between Sephardi and Ashkenazi students, and overall levels of achievement, after adjusting for measurement error and for students' family background characteristics and prior achievement. The study f…
Ethnic Similarity, Tutor Expertise, and Tutor Satisfaction in Cross-Age Tutoring
Path analysis was employed to examine the effects of tutor-tutee ethnic similarity, tutor expertise variables, and perceived goal attainment variables on the satisfaction of college student tutors of disadvantaged elementary school children. Hypotheses were based upon theories of job satisfaction, role modeling, and intragroup conflict, as well as upon past research. Data were collected by mailed questionnaires from 425 tutors participating in a …
