Open Access•Haidong Wang, Kaja Abbas et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2020

BACKGROUND: Accurate and up-to-date assessment of demographic metrics is crucial for understanding a wide range of social, economic, and public health issues that affect populations worldwide. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 produced updated and comprehensive demographic assessments of the key indicators of fertility, mortality, migration, and population for 204 countries and territories and selected sub…

    Open Access•Steven J Quan, James Park et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning B Urban…•2019

Current planning and design decision support systems show limitations in the integration of design, science, and computation. Planning support systems with manual design and post-design evaluations impose major challenges in exploring huge design spaces. Generative design systems largely neglect the wicked nature of design problems and lack appropriate representation methods and simulation tools at the urban scale. To tackle those challenges, thi…

    Open Access•Hmwe Hmwe Kyu, D Abate et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: How long one lives, how many years of life are spent in good and poor health, and how the population's state of health and leading causes of disability change over time all have implications for policy, planning, and provision of services. We comparatively assessed the patterns and trends of healthy life expectancy (HALE), which quantifies the number of years of life expected to be lived in good health, and the complementary measure o…

  • The link between religion and Haart adherence in pediatric HIV patients

    James Park, Sharon Nachman•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2010

HIV is a chronic illness that requires strict adherence to medication regimens. This study attempts to examine the patterns of highly active antiretroviral therapy adherence relative to religious beliefs in a population of perinatally HIV-infected adolescents. Eligible subjects included perinatally HIV-infected youth aged 14-22 years who knew their HIV status. Assessment tools included an antiretroviral adherence form, a standardized depression q…

  • Ethnogenesis or Neo Indigenous Intelligentsia

    Open Access•James Park•ARTICLE•Latin American Research Review•2007

The ethnic-cultural (re)naissance in Chile is currently undergoing an expansion as well as a diversification along lines of minority cultures and gender differentiations. Since the explosion onto the Chilean literary landscape of the bilingual poet Leonel Lienlaf in 1989, Mapuche-Huilliche writers have come into the spotlight of academia, state, and popular culture critics. Younger generations of Huilliche poets are distinguishing themselves thro…

  • Emotional Literacy

James Park, James K Park•ARTICLE•International Journal of Children…•1999

The relevance of ‘emotional literacy’ and ‘emotional intelligence’ to education has become a subject of considerable interest to educationalists and policy‐makers. There is little difference between the way these two terms are currently used. There is, though, a need to draw a distinction between projects that are about instructing young people in how to manage their emotions so as to improve their social behaviour, and those that aim instead to …

  • Self-Concept/Ideal-Self-Concept Congruence and Rated Effectiveness of Counselor Trainees

    Open Access•Larry Eberlein, James Park•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•1971•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Sixty-nine counselor trainees in Alberta, Canada, completed the Interpersonal Check List at the beginning and end of their training year. On both occasions trainees responded to a "set" for self-concept and self-ideal. The congruence between self and ideal (S-I) was tested for both linear and curvilinear relationships with supervisor ratings and final practicum grades of students. A curvilinear relationship was found between (S-I) congruence and …

  • Quantum Theoretical Concepts of Measurement

    Open Access•James Park, James L Park•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1968•Cited by: 4•References: 12

The overall purpose of this paper is to clarify the physical meaning and epistemological status of the term ‘measurement’ as used in quantum theory. After a review of the essential logical structure of quantum physics. Part I presents interpretive discussions contrasting the quantal concepts observable and ensemble with their classical ancestors along the lines of Margenau's latency theory. Against this background various popular ideas concerning…

  • Quantum Theoretical Concepts of Measurement

    Open Access•James Park, James L Park•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1968•Cited by: 1•References: 8

This portion of the essay concludes a two-part paper, Part I of which appeared in an earlier issue of this Journal. Part II begins with a careful study of the quantum description of real experiments in order to motivate a proposal that two distinct quantum theoretical measurement constructs should be recognized, both of which must be distinguished from the concept of preparation. The different epistemological roles of these concepts are compared …
