Short Time, Big Impact
Academic impact is often measured in the amount of publications, number of students mentored, and what seminal research is contributed to a field. However, beyond this physical component of a person's legacy is the influence they have on the field's current and future practitioners and their perceptions of the field. Stephen Ousley's contributions to both academic impact and lasting influence on its members are innumerable. This article seeks to …
Visualizing Variability in Ceramic Micro-Curvature though Novel 3D Morphometric Mapping and Sliced Segmental Extraction
In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) outline-based morphometric analysis has begun to be the standard means of shape analysis in the study of ceramics. Despite the ever-increasing repertoire of three-dimensional (3D) ceramic data available to researchers, due to challenges in utilizing landmark-based geometric morphometrics on ceramics, many contemporary studies are forced to rely on 2D outlines, which account for only a small degree of shape va…
D Data Acquisition for Bioarchaeology, Forensic Anthropology and Archaelogical Contexts
Conclusions
Kazuro Hanihara 1927–2004
An assessment of postcranial indices, ratios, and body mass versus eco‐geographical variables of prehistoric Jomon, Yayoi agriculturalists, and Kumejima Islanders of Japan
The complex interaction of evolutionary forces and development/nutritional constraints are implicated in the mismatch of limb and body proportions
Craniofacial variation of the Xiongnu Iron Age nomads of Mongolia reveals their possible origins and population history
An alternative view of the peopling of South America
In this study, we compare the craniofacial morphology of four Sumidouro skulls and one Lund skull of paleo South Americans from Lagoa Santa, Brazil, with worldwide prehistoric and recent human craniofacial metric data, and suggest an alternative view of the migration history of early South America. Affiliations of samples and individuals were examined by the principal coordinate plot generated by Relethford and Blangero's R-matrix method, the nei…
Chinese immigrant population history in North America based on craniometric diversity
In this study, Chinese immigrant population history and structure was assessed using craniometric diversity in two historic cemeteries located in North America. Analyses addressed questions of population history, migration, and geographic origin for Chinese immigrants to the United States in the late 1800s. Craniometric diversity was assessed by the use of the R-matrix method on 19 metric traits in 62 male Chinese immigrant individuals. Using a p…
History and Trends within the American Association of Physical Anthropologists
