Navigating the Flames
Cremation became the dominant funerary practice in the Middle Danube Region during the Roman Period (RP) (1st–4th century) and reappeared in the Early Medieval Ages (EMA) (6th/7th–8th century). This study aims to reconstruct differences in cremation conditions from the Gbely‐Kojatín site (Slovakia, RP and EMA) and the Přítluky site (Czech Republic, EMA) through FTIR‐ATR (IRSF, C/C, OH/P, and BPI) and carbon and oxygen isotope (δ 13 C and δ 18 O) …

Variation in human bone bioerosion during the Late Eneolithic/Bronze Age in Moravia (Czech Republic)
Human bones from Late Eneolithic graves and Bronze Age settlement pits in Moravia (Czech Republic) were studied to reconstruct their post‐mortem histories based on the distribution of their microbial destruction. Backscattered electrons in a scanning electron microscope (BSE‐SEM) were used for visual assessment of bioerosion. Visual data from the histological analysis were transformed into quantitative data using the Waikato Environment for Knowl…
The Šenov-Salaš 1 and 4 Upper Palaeolithic sites and settlement and procurement strategies in the Aurignacian of the Moravian Gate
Techno-typological analysis of two chipped stone assemblages from Šenov-Salaš 1 and 4 in the Moravian Gate (Czech Republic) indicates they belong to the Aurignacian. The two assemblages, preferentially made of Baltic (erratic) flints, comprise few distinctive tool types, though. A statistical analysis was conducted to compare their raw material strategy, tool typology, and topography with other Moravian Aurignacian sites. It transpired that they …
Využití kontextuální tafonomie k rekonstrukci způsobu exkarnace sekundárně uložených lidských kostí
Sekundárně uložené lidské kosti v sídlištních jamách starší doby železné jsou častým a dosud nevysvětleným archeologickým nálezem. Cílem studie je pomocí kontextuální tafonomie rekonstruovat původ a způsob exkarnace sekundárně uložených lidských kostí.
Reading the Silhouettes of Burnt Dead
Evidence of innovation and social differentiation in burial practices in Early Bronze Age Moravia
