Cross‐cultural Variations in Relationship Rules
A British study of the informal rules of 22 social relationships was replicated among Japanese, Hong Kong and Italian samples. Subjects were asked to rate the importance of 33 common and varying numbers of relationship‐specific rules to each of these relationships on a 9‐point bipolar scale. The informal rules of working relationships
It was expected that there would be informal rules of several kinds for working relationships. In the first study subjects rated 33 common rules and a number of relationship‐specific rules for three work roles. It was found that certain rules were strongly endorsed for work‐mates, superiors and subordinates. An empirical typology of violent incidents reported by prison inmates with convictions for violence
Forty-four male prison inmates convicted for violent offences were interviewed, and details of current offence, previous convictions for violence, prison incidents, and violent situations outside of prison were obtained from each offender. Information on victim, circumstances, precipitating events, type of violence, emotions at the time, and the like, was derived for 246 violent incidents. Social support by four categories of work colleagues: Relationships between activities, stress and satisfaction
An approach to the study of social support at work is presented emphasizing nature and type of social support. One hundred employees in a range of occupations rated the frequency of engaging in 12 types of social and work‐related activity with each of four work colleagues varying in degree of intimacy. Studied the effect of social categorization, strength of influence and predisposition to influence on social influence concerning musical preferences.
