  • Are teachers’ knowledge of language and literacy concepts and students’ reading performance reciprocally related?

Open Access•Pamela Guilbault, George Georgiou et al.•ARTICLE•Reading and Writing•2026

  • Peer influence on children’s academic achievement

Open Access•Tong Lin, Yuhan Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Reading and Writing•2026

  • Mixed methods research teams

Open Access•Cheryl Poth, Cheryl N Poth et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2024

Mixed methods research teams have garnered increased attention for their leveraging of diverse disciplinary and methodological expertise in pursuit of complex problems. We advance our theoretical viewpoint of integrative mixed methods research teamwork as necessary with empirical evidence demonstrating the equipping mixed methods researchers to study complex problems involving interacting systems and lacking known solutions. Integrative mixed met…

  • Contrasting Direct Instruction in Morphological Decoding and Morphological Inquiry-Analysis Interventions in Grade 3 Children With Poor Morphological Awareness

Open Access•Russell Savage, Robert Savage et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Learning Disabilities•2024

We report on a school-based randomized control trial study comparing two morphological interventions with untaught controls: one focusing on direct instruction targeting print morphological decoding (direct decoding condition) and the other on inquiry-focused pedagogy using oral morphological analysis (inquiry-analysis condition). We identified 63 Grade 3 children with below-average morphological awareness following screening (from N = 163). This…

  • Reading Fluency in Chinese Children With Reading Disabilities and/or ADHD

Open Access•Miao Li, George K Georgiou et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Learning Disabilities•2023

The Triangle Model of Reading proposes that phonology, orthography, and semantics are crucial to understand word reading and reading disability (RD). Morphology has been added as a binding agent to this model. However, it is unclear how these variables relate to word reading in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or comorbid ADHD and RD (ADHD+RD). This study examined the performance of Chinese children with RD, ADHD, or …

  • Effective School Literacy Culture and Learning Outcomes

Open Access•Matthew Kierstead, Matthew A Kierstead et al.•ARTICLE•Alberta Journal of Educational…•2023

The purpose of this study was to explore the multifaceted leadership role an effective principal assumed in the deployment of evidence-based literacy practices in her school. We conducted a mixed methods case study integrating the lived experiences of 11 school staff (principal, learning support teacher, and classroom teachers) with the reading scores of 122 Grade 1 to 3 students in Alberta (Canada). A merged mixed analysis strategy revealed four…

  • Ageing and thought suppression performance

    Open Access•James Erskine, James A K Erskine et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2017

  • Creativity and ease of ambiguous figural reversal

Open Access•Richard Wiseman, Caroline Watts et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2011•References: 21

Two studies examined the relationships between self-rated and objectively measured creative ability and ease of perceiving alternative interpretations of the ambiguous Duck-Rabbit figure. The studies found empirical support for what has previously been a largely analogical connection between figural reversal and creativity, using both self-rated trait creativity and objectively scored creative productivity. We discuss the hypothesis that executiv…

  • Effects of thought suppression on eating behaviour in restrained and non-restrained eaters

    Open Access•James Erskine, James A K Erskine et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2010•Cited by: 9•References: 20

  • Corporate non-participation in the ASB standard-setting process

    George Georgiou•ARTICLE•European Accounting Review•2002

The standard-setting process of the UK's Accounting Standards Board (ASB) can be examined from different theoretical frameworks. One considers it a political process where interested parties choose to lobby on the basis of lobbying costs and benefits accrued from successful lobbying. The examination of the motives of various parties to lobby or not is considered important for understanding the process. Another framework assumes a non-pluralistic …

  • Modelling Greek-Turkish Rivalry

    Open Access•George M Georgiou, George Georgiou et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•1996•Cited by: 2•References: 17

Three models are used to test the widely held view that there is military rivalry between Greece and Turkey. The modelling is based on the work of McGuire (1977), Desai & Blake (1981) and a vector autoregression specification. Particular attention is paid to appropriate diagnostic tests, the long-run values and Granger causality. Empirical findings provide little corroboration of the view that there is an arms race between Greece and Turkey. Such…

  • The political economy of military expenditure

    Open Access•George Georgiou•ARTICLE•Capital & Class•1983•References: 2

Writers on the political economy of military expenditure and the arms race are categorised into several schools of thought. Emphasis is put on the technical and historical limitations of the arguments put forward by each school. The author argues that the dynamic nature of the historical process results in socio-political and economic changes within a specific mode of production thus making attempts to formulate a general theory of military expen…
