The Medical System Is Not Built for Black [Women’s] Bodies”: Qualitative Insights from Young Black Women in the Greater Toronto Area on Their Sexual Health Care Needs
While often framed as historical or ‘post’colonial, the pervasive legacies of anti-Black racism, rooted in the afterlives of slavery and the dehumanization of African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) voices, continues to shape the health experiences of young ACB women in Ontario, Canada. Using an intersectional framework, this qualitative study utilized focus groups (n = 24) to understand factors influencing access to sexual and reproductive health se…
Children of Homosexuals More Apt to Become Homosexual and Experience Parental Molestation: Surveys Over Three Decades
In 1996 (Cameron & Cameron), we reported that adult children of homosexuals more frequently reported homosexual desires and sex with their parent(s). Schumm (2015 Schumm, W. R. (2015). Sarantakos’s research on same-sex parenting in Australia and New Zealand: Importance, substance, and corroboration with research from the United States. Comprehensive Psychology, 4(16), 1–29. doi:10.2466/17.cp.4.16[Crossref] , [Google Scholar]) stated he would focu…
Re-Examining Evelyn Hooker: Setting the Record Straight with Comments on Schumm's (2012) Reanalysis
Evelyn Hooker's research comparing the mental health of 30 male homosexuals to 30 male heterosexuals may be the most influential study in the history of social science. The American Psychological Association (APA) claims her work was the major reason it began advocating for acceptance of homosexuality. It led the American Psychiatric Association in 1973 to eliminate homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. And…
Facts, Not Opinions, Drive Science: A Reply to Morrison
Accuracy is the most important aspect of empiricism. If investigators are clear about their method and employ it to generate ‘facts,’ their opinions are irrelevant. So it is of some significance that Morrison, who spends more than one-third of his paper attacking my motives — indeed accusing me of ‘hatred of gay men and lesbian women’ — does not dispute my findings. Strip away the ad hominem attacks and little remains.
Children of Homosexuals and Transsexuals More Apt to Be Homosexual
Do the sexual inclinations of parents influence those of their children? Of 77 adult children of homosexual parents who volunteered for three different investigations, at least 23 (30%) were currently homosexual: twelve (55%) of 22 daughters and three (21%) of fourteen sons of lesbians; five (29%) of seventeen daughters and three (17%) of eighteen sons of gays; none of six sons with both a gay and a lesbian parent. At least 25 (32%) were currentl…

Are over a Third of Foster Parent Molestations Homosexual
50% of foster parent abuse in a general population survey and 34% of abuse as determined by the Illinois DCFS was homosexual. In news stories in the 50 largest newspapers and wire services 1980-2003, 175 foster parents sexually abused 351+ charges. For the 169 whose sex of victim could be determined: 149 (88%) were men; 76 (53%) victimized homosexually; and 85 (50%) were unmarried. Men assaulted 319 (91%) victims, homosexual practitioners 222 (63…
Child Molestations by Homosexual Foster Parents: Illinois, 1997–2002
Do those who engage in homosexuality disproportionately sexually abuse foster or adoptive children as reported by child protective services? Illinois child services reported sexual abuse for 1997 through 2002. 270 parents committed "substantiated" sexual offenses against foster or subsidized adoptive children: 67 (69%) of 97 of these mother and 148 (86%) of 173 of these father perpetrators sexually abused girls; 30 (31%) of the mothers and 25 (14…
Gay Obituaries Closely Track Officially Reported Deaths from Aids
The age distribution of AIDS deaths of males who have sex with males [MSM] was estimated from obituaries in the Washington Blade, a gay newspaper. Statistics from the 2003 HIV/AIDS Surveillance Supplemental Report are highly congruent with deaths of MSM due to AIDS from these obituaries. Death due to AIDS in old age was most frequent for heterosexuals and least frequent for MSM who were drug abusers. Obituaries in the Washington Blade are thus co…
Oddities in Kirkpatrick, et al. 's Study of Children of Lesbian Mothers
Kirkpatrick, et al. 's 1976 study of what happened to 20 lesbians' children has received considerable attention, apparently later being matched with 20 heterosexuals' children. In 2004, Kirkpatrick generally acknowledged Schumm's caution that her findings are less impressive than are needed, yet, Kirkpatrick stated her “early findings have been reinforced” and that “no evidence of differences in the children grouped by the mother's sexual orienta…
Homosexual Sex as Harmful as Drug Abuse, Prostitution, or Smoking
Homosexual Sex as Harmful as Drug Abuse, Prostitution, or Smoking
In 2003, the U.S. Supreme Court said same-sex sexual activity could not be prohibited by law. Analyzing data from the 1996 National Household Survey of Drug Abuse (N= 12,381) and comparing those who engaged in four recreational activities-homosexual sex, illegal drug use, participation in prostitution, and smoking --against those who abstained, participants (1) were more frequently disruptive (e.g., more frequently criminal, drove under the influ…
Numbers of Homosexual Parents Living with Their Children
Those contending for the 'normalcy' of homosexuality claim there are 800,000 to 7 million homosexual parents raising between 1 and 9 million children. The 1996 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, a nationally representative sample of 12,321 ages 18 through 59 yr., reported about 416,000 parents-most of whom were married-living with children under the age of 17 yr. who reported same-sex "vaginal, oral, or anal sex" in the past 12 months. Two …
Domestic Violence among Homosexual Partners
Is domestic violence more frequent in homosexual partnerships? The 1996 National Household Survey of Drug Abuse, based upon a random sample of 12,381 adults aged 18 to 59 years, estimated that 828,900 men and 828,678 women engaged in homosexuality in the prior 12 months. Random surveys indicated that at any given time, 29% of homosexual men and 32% of homosexual women are in same-sex partnerships. The National Criminal Victimization Survey for 19…

Molestations by Homosexual Foster Parents: Newspaper Accounts vs Official Records
To assess whether a systematic tally of newspaper accounts reflect official foster-parent molestation a review of 6,444 news stories on Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe from 1989 through 2002 about child molestation yielded 33 stories involving foster parents. Of the 25 foster-parent perpetrators, at least 15 (60%) engaged in homosexuality. In Illinois 1997-2002, 92 (34%) of 270 foster- or adoptive-parent perpetrators who engaged in "substantiated" …

Homosexual Parents in Custody Disputes: A Thousand Child-Years Exposure
Through 1998, 78 custody appeal decisions involving 79 homosexual parents were evaluated. The 142 children involved in these cases were exposed to a thousand child-years of homosexual parenting. In appeals records (a) parents recorded as lying or engaging in criminality or homosexuality were more apt to be recorded as harming children; (b) homosexuals more frequently were recorded as lying or engaging in criminality; (c) in 54 (70%) disputes the …

Homosexual Parents in British Custody Appeals
6 British child custody appeal cases including a homosexual parent were compared with 6 randomly drawn appeal cases between heterosexual parents for parental and mental instability, partners' instability, residential instability, criminality, and lying, and having harmed the children and exposing children to harms. In 3 of the 6 cases the homosexual or his associates were recorded as engaging in criminality, in another 2 cases with lying. In one …

Psychology of the Scientist: Lxxxv. Research on Homosexuality: A Response to Schumm (And Herek)
Because social science is “messy,” just about any criticism of any work—including our efforts—has validity. But the empiricist principle is more important than a theoretical search for perfection in research. The findings from our 1983–1984 nationwide random survey are superior to earlier efforts and similar enough to those reported by the 1992 nationwide random survey conducted by University of Chicago investigators, the 1994 British effort, and…
Homosexual Partnerships and Homosexual Longevity: A Replication
Replicating previous findings that homosexuals are underrepresented after middle age, the 1996 National Household Survey of Drug Abuse (N = 12,381) and 2000 Kaiser Family Foundation 15-city survey (N = 405) reported that homosexual men and women are seldom aged 50+ yr. and that older homosexuals are more apt to have a homosexual partner. Deaths of 228 homosexuals as recorded in the Washington Blade 1999-2001 were examined. Although more apt to ha…

Frequency and Kinds of Words in Various Social Settings, or What the Hell's Going on
One does not need a high degree of sen: sitivity to notice that profanity is not necessarily the mark of the uneducated or even that it is not necessarily socially taboo. In our society profane or words fulfill many functions-if you don't kn ow someone or only know him to a modest degree, calling him an old bastard is apt to elicit a sore nose; on the other hand, the same phrase may constitute endearment to a friend. Situationally we well know th…

Pet Ownership and Sex as Determinants of Stated Affect toward others and Estimates of others' Regard of Self
To search for personality correlates of pet ownership 176 Ss were administered a questionnaire which elicited estimates of one's liking of others and others' liking of self. Results suggest that pet owners and males like people-in-general less than non-owners and females
Confirmation of the Freudian Psychosexual Stages Utilizing Sexual Symbolism
2,336 Ss between the ages of 3 and 17 chose one member of each of 12 pairs of Freudian-inspired shapes representing masculinity or femininity. Choices supported the psychoanalytic hypotheses that: (1) the phallic, latency, and genital stages would be revealed in shape preferences; and (2) both males and females aged 13 or older would prefer masculine shapes due to the male-orientation of our culture while the choices of children in the phallic st…

When asked to estimate the percentage of time they thought about sex per day, 238 Ss' responses suggested that, while the sexes are equally interested in sex, this interest declines with age
Effects of Introductory Phrases and Tonal-Facial Suggestion upon Question-Elicited Responses
18 variously-biased phrasings of 2 questions were administered by 20 interviewers pretending to endorse the given phrasing to 1164 college students. Personality Differences Between Typical Urban Negroes and Whites
A Detroit study investigated the personality differences between typical urban Negroes and Whites. Subiects included 416 whites and 200 negroes over the age of 14. The following instruments were administered to all sublects: (1) the Cantor short form of the Barron Ego Strength scale, (2) the Eysenek Personality Inventory, (3) the Cameron Religious Dimensions scale, (4) the Sarrason Hostility scale, (5) the Birdie Masculinity-femininity check list…
Psychological Correlates of Pet Ownership
What are the psychological effects of relating to 3 person who features, among other things, instant compliance, unrelenting positive regard toward oneself, intrinsic charm, and no faults-in short, is 'perfect'? Many owners view their pets as this and more, yet obviously these characteristics exist mainly 'in the eye of the beholder' rather than being a function of the animal himself. Any person who tried to relate to real people as he did to his…

The Swedish “Children Born to Women Denied Abortion” Study: A Radical Criticism
In 1966 a study of 120 children born to women denied abortion was reported as demonstrating that children issuing from such a circumstance would be handicapped socially and psychologically. Reexamination of the data advanced in light of differences in social class and proneness toward psychiatric consultation indicates that children issuing from a denied abortion turn out much as children in general
Social Psychological Aspects of the Judeo-Christian Stance toward Homosexuality
The American Psychiatric and Psychological Associations have taken a strong liberalization stand on the treatment of homosexuality which contrasts with the Judeo-Christian background of our society. To test the possible validity of the Judeo-Christian charge that homosexuality, and the support of granting equivalence to homosexuality, tends toward lethality (evil) and away from social cohesion and respect for human life (the good), 2, 251 partici…
Homosexual Molestation of Children/Sexual Interaction of Teacher and Pupil
A review of the literature was conducted in which 19 separate studies were examined for the ratio of heterosexual-to-homosexual molestations of children and the ratio of female-to-male child victims. Using random-probability studies reported by three different sets of investigators, an estimate that about 4% of the general population is bisexual-to-homosexual was employed to generate relative degrees of ‘dangerousness’ of the various sexual orien…
Child Molestation and Homosexuality
How much child molestation occurs in our society and how much is homosexual? Random-probability samples in Los Angeles, Denver, Omaha, Louisville, and Washington, DC yielded 4,340 adults who answered an extensive questionnaire regarding sexual attitudes, activities, and experiences. Results indicate that perhaps 16% of both boys and girls claim sexual relations with an adult before the age of 16; if only experiences with men are counted about 5% …

Reply to Boor and Duncan
Ours a 'national random sample' in the usual, rather imprecise, sense of the term employed in the social sciences. For instance, a recent (sampling also began in 1983) estimate prevalence and incidence of mental disorder in the United States initiated by the National Instirure of Mental Health is a five-site collaborative effort (like ours) and included Baltimore, MD, Durham, NC, Los Angeles, CA, New Haven, CT, and St. Louis, MOW (four of the NIM…
Did the American Psychological Association Misrepresent Scientific Material to the Us Supreme Court
On January 31, 1986, the American Psychological Association (APA) filed an amicus curiae brief with the US Supreme Court favoring constitutional protection for consensual sodomy. The APA claimed that: (1) the Bell, Weinberg, and Hammersmith survey found that “62% of heterosexual men reported that their first sexual experience was with another male; 39% of homosexual men reported such experience,” (2) “data do not support” a linkage between childh…
Homosexuals in the Armed Forces
To assess possible morale and recruiting problems that might be associated with changing the military policy against admitting or retaining homosexual practitioners, a national systematic area-cluster sample of 4,340 adults and a Dallas sample of 842 were given a questionnaire concerning (1) feelings about nudity before homosexuals and heterosexuals, (2) military service and kind of discharge, (3) sharing communal facilities with homosexuals, (4)…
Effect of Homosexuality upon Public Health and Social Order
Are homosexuals "not dangers to society" and is homosexuality "compatible with full health"? To answer these questions 4,340 adult respondents drawn via area probability sampling from 5 metropolitan areas of the USA self-administered an extensive sexuality/public order questionnaire of over 500 items. Bisexuals and homosexuals (about 4% of the sample) as compared to heterosexuals: (1) more frequently exposed themselves to biological hazards (e.g.…
Aids—Intervention Works; “Education” is Questionable
A decrease in or leveling off of new cases of transfusion-related AIDS coupled with continued increases in homosexual and IV drug cases suggests that intervention by barring contaminated blood has worked and "education" has worked less well, if at all. Current evidence suggests that the blood-bar resulted in the change in new AIDS cases among children within 3 years and among adults within 3 1/2 years

The Longevity of Homosexuals: Before and after the Aids Epidemic
Although the U.S. Surgeon General characterized homosexual sex as “normal” and “healthy,” homosexuals and IV drug abusers have suffered disproportionately from the AIDS epidemic. Longevity is often utilized as a measure of health. How long did homosexuals live before the AIDS epidemic and how long do they live today? We examined 6,737 obituaries/death notices from eighteen U.S. homosexual journals over the past thirteen years and compared them to…
Does Incest Cause Homosexuality
A random sample of 5,182 adults from 6 U.S. metropolitan areas were questioned about incestuous sexual relationships during childhood. Incest was disproportionately reported by both male and female bisexuals and homosexuals. 148 gays (7.7% of the sample) reported 14 (50%) of same-sex, and 7 (22%) of opposite-sex incestuous experiences, and 20 (69%) of same-sex and 2 (3%) of opposite-sex sexual experiences with other relatives. 88 lesbians (3% of …
Does Homosexual Activity Shorten Life
Previous estimates from obituaries and pre-1994 sex surveys suggested that the median age of death for homosexuals is less than 50 yr. Four contemporary databases were used to test that estimate: (1) obituaries in the homosexual press from 1993 through 1997 reflected treatment success for those with AIDS but suggested a median age of death less than 50 years; (2) two large random sexuality surveys in 1994--one in the USA and the other in Britain-…
