The Contribution of the Hittite Documentation to the Historical Geography of the Middle Orontes Region
This paper presents the testimony of the Hittite documentation relating to the Middle Orontes Region. Generally rather vague, as composed from a distant, supraregional perspective, it can nonetheless be employed, in combination with complementary sources from other regions, to reconstruct an —admittedly still somewhat sketchy— historical and geographical framework for the region. The Hittite material for the Orontes in general is briefly discusse…
Puduheba
Puduheba was the influential queen of Hattusili III, king of Hatti ca. 1260s–1230s. In his Apology , Hattusili relates how he married Puduheba, daughter of Benti‐Šarri, priest of Šawuška of Lawazantiya in Kizzuwatna (van den Hout 1997). While returning from the Battle of Qadesh in 1274 ( see Qadesh, Battle of), Hattusili dreamt that Shawushka (the Hurrian Ištar; see Inanna (Ishtar)) instructed him to marry Puduheba. During Hattusili's subsequent …
Kizzuwatna
Kizzuwatna was a land corresponding approximately to Iron Age Qu(w)e ( see Que ) and classical Cilicia in southeastern Anatolia , that is roughly the drainage area of the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers (Hawkins and Symington 2007).
Paskuwatti’s Ritual
The Hittite composition known as Paskuwatti’s Ritual (CTH 406) has long been understood as a rite designed to help a man to overcome sexual impotence. The present paper, in contrast, attempts to demonstrate that it is more convincingly interpreted as an antidote to homosexual behavior, apparently seeking to cure its patient of his proclivity for passive sexual acquiescence and to replace it with an inclination toward normative male, i.e. penetrat…

Joins and Duplicates among the Boğazköy Tablets (21–30)
During my recent work on Keilschrifttexte aus Boghazköi 50, 53 and 57, I was able to find a further series of joins and duplicates. Nos. 21–22, 24–26, 28 and 30 I was able to collate, join (when applicable) and photograph in Ankara in the summers of 2005 and 2006. All of the tablets in question come from Temple I, except for No. 27, the provenience of which is unknown, and No. 29, which comes from Büyükkale, Building E. All fragments show a New H…
Joins and Duplicates among the Boğazköy Tablets (11–20)
In my continued editing of the remaining fragments from the post-war excavations for the series Keilschrifttexte aus Boghazköi, I have been able to find a further series of joins and duplicates. The present group will be of particular interest to many Hittitologists, as they are all historical fragments, drawings of most of which will appear shortly in KBo 50, Texte historischen Inhalts. All fragments for which a findspot is known originate in th…
Joins and Duplicates among the Bğazköy Tablets (1–10)
In conjunction with my work at the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur, Mainz, I have been able to find a number of joins and duplicates among the fragments of the Boğazköy archive, and rather than simply allowing them to rest in the card catalogue until being published in a KBo volume or perhaps to go unnoticed within S. Košak's Konkordanz (www.hethiter.net), it seemed fitting to publish them here. This continues in a sense a tradition…
