This book examines the political experience of the Hmong Americans immigrants, who first came to the United States as refugees of Vietnam War. At the same time, average levels of Hmong American educational attainment still lag far behind levels in the U.S. po…

  • The Role of Immigration in the Designing of the American Nation

    Carolyn Wong•ARTICLE•Diaspora A Journal of Transnational…•2012

In this comprehensive history of US immigration policy, Aristide Zolberg demonstrates how American political leaders have long devised immigration laws for the purpose of nation-building. The 1965 passage of immigration reform, which removed racial quotas, generated a mass immigration to the United States from Latin America and Asia. This wave of immigration began in the immediate aftermath of the civil rights era and it led to the formation of a new set of ethnic advocacy groups in American politics

  • Structure of NF-κB p50 homodimer bound to a κB site

Open Access•David Rubenson, Gourisankar Ghosh et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•1995

The 2.3-A crystal structure of the transcription factor NK-kappa B p50 homodimer bound to a palindromic kappa B site reveals that the Rel homology region folds into two distinct domains, similar to those in the immunoglobulin superfamily. The p50 dimer envelopes an undistorted B-DNA helix, making specific contacts along the 10-base-pair kappa B recognition site mainly through loops connecting secondary structure elements in both domains. The carb…
