    This work is a publication of texts which were excavated in 1907 at Deir el-Bala'izah, situated some 12 miles south of Assyut on the west bank of the Nile on the edge of the desert. The excavation was performed by the British School of Archeology under Sir W. M. Flinders Petrie. A short account was given in Egypt Exploration Fund, Archeological Report 1906-1907 p. 29 and p. 75.     At the beginning of this century shadow plays were sometimes performed in Egypt, but not very often. They had latterly become chiefly an entertainment for the lower classes, and because of the drastic comedy of these plays the Government took steps to suppress them.
