Ensuite, l’a…

  • Evolution of community forestry in Cameroon: An Innovation Ecosystems Perspective

    Open Access•Peter A Minang, Lalisa A Duguma et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2019

Minang, P. A., L. A. Duguma, F. Bernard, D. Foundjem-Tita, and Z. Tchoundjeu. 2019. Evolution of community forestry in Cameroon: an innovation ecosystems perspective. Ecology and Society 24(1):1. https://doi.org/10.5751/ES-10573-240101

  • Community forestry and Redd+ in Cameroon: What Future

    Open Access•Florence Bernard, Peter A Minang•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2019•Cited by: 1

The Cameroonian Readiness Preparation Proposal recognizes community forests (CFs) as one strategy for implementing REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries). However, there has been little analysis of the extent to which CFs can help achieve REDD+ objectives in Cameroon. We explore options for…

  • Social actors and unsustainability of agriculture

Open Access•Florence Bernard, Meine Van Noordwijk et al.•ARTICLE•Current Opinion in Environmental…•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 2

Social actors can strongly affect the sustainability of agricultural operations by influencing farmers’ decisions and choices. Such actors include: (1) loss-making investors who abandon farms due to low returns, (2) angry neighbours negatively affected by farming operations and engaging in silent or active conflict, (3) dissatisfied customers at the end of the value chain who reject the products and shift to alternative providers, and (4) overact…

  • Co-investment paradigms as alternatives to payments for tree-based ecosystem services in Africa

Open Access•Sara Namirembe, Beria Leimona et al.•ARTICLE•Current Opinion in Environmental…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 6

Multiple paradigms have emerged within the broad payments for ecosystem services (ES) domain for internalizing externalities of local land-use change decisions. These range from reward of ready-made ES delivery (commoditised) to reward of processes of ES generation (co-investment). Evidence from tree-based projects in Africa suggests that currently, only carbon sequestration and emission reduction are ‘commoditised’, however in an artificial way …

  • Prospects for agroforestry in Redd+ landscapes in Africa

    Open Access•Peter A Minang, Lalisa Duguma et al.•ARTICLE•Current Opinion in Environmental…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Agroforests and agroforestry can be direct targets of Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) programs, or indirect parts of the necessary conditions for success. Whether or not it becomes a core element of REDD+ depends on the country's forest definition. We review these dimensions of agroforestry in REDD+, with supporting examples, mostly from Africa, and highlight the implications and challenges for enhancing the co…

  • Global estimates of the value of ecosystems and their services in monetary units

Open Access•R S De Groot, Rudolf De Groot et al.•ARTICLE•Ecosystem Services•2012

This paper gives an overview of the value of ecosystem services of 10 main biomes expressed in monetary units. In total, over 320 publications were screened covering over 300 case study locations. Approximately 1350 value estimates were coded and stored in a searchable Ecosystem Service Value Database (ESVD). A selection of 665 value estimates was used for the analysis. Acknowledging the uncertainties and contextual nature of any valuation, the a…
