  • Considerations for the Safe Operation of Schools During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Open Access•Ronan Lordan, Samantha Prior et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

During the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, providing safe in-person schooling has been a dynamic process balancing evolving community disease burden, scientific information, and local regulatory requirements with the mandate for education. Considerations include the health risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection and its post-acute sequelae, the impact of remote learning or periods of quarantine on education and well-b…

  • Did the movie Finding Dory increase demand for blue tang fish

Open Access•Diogo Veríssimo, Sean Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 27

Representations of wildlife in television and films have long been hypothesized to shape human-wildlife interactions. A recent example is Pixar's film Finding Dory, which featured a blue tang fish (Paracanthurus hepatus) as the main character and was widely reported in the popular press to have increased the number of such fish in the pet trade. We use Bayesian posterior predictive counterfactual models to evaluate the movie's effect on three met…

  • Re-Mapping Centre and Periphery

Open Access•Joris Van Eijnatten, Melissa North et al.•BOOK•Re-Mapping Centre and Periphery•2019•References: 23

Historians often assume a one-directional transmission of knowledge and ideas, leading to the establishment of spatial hierarchies defined as centres and peripheries. In recent decades, transnational and global history have contributed to a more inclusive understanding of intellectual and cultural exchanges that profoundly challenged the ways in which we draw our mental maps. \n \nCovering the early modern and modern periods, Re-Mapping Centre an…

  • Modernità and Interiorità in Colonial Asmara

    Sean Anderson, Sean S Anderson•ARTICLE•Italian Studies•2006

From 1898 until 1941, the domestic architecture of Asmara reflected the indeterminacy of the Italian colonial, and subsequently Fascist state. Modern architecture in Asmara is most intriguing when it intersects with autochthonous forms that punctuate certain spaces and buildings. The deployment of these elements is equated to the long-standing visual and architectonic mastery of foreign lands and cultures. Architectural historians have offered ve…

  • Crime, criminal justice, and popular culture

Sean Anderson, Sean T Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Criminal Justice…•1994

Significant attention has been given, especially in nonacademic circles, to various forms of popular culture and their relationship to violence, crime, and other forms of deviance. Nonetheless, relatively little criminological thought has been directed toward this important area. In this paper we articulate the value of popular culture analyses to studies of criminal justice and criminology, and describe a new scholarly journal titled the Journal…

  • Potential for aquifer compaction, land subsidence, and earth fissures in Avra Valley, Pima and Pinal Counties, Arizona

    Sean Anderson•REPORT•1989

  • Cenozoic stratigraphy and geologic history of the Tucson Basin, Pima County, Arizona

    Sean Anderson•REPORT•1987•References: 3

This report was prepared as part of a geohydrologic study of the Tucson basin conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the city of Tucson. Geologic data from more than 500 water supply and test wells were analyzed to define characteristics of the basin sediments that may affect the potential for land subsidence induced by groundwater withdrawal. The Tucson basin is a structural depression within the Basin and Range physiographi…

  • Ground-water conditions in Avra Valley, Pima and Pinal Counties, Arizona -1985

    Melinda K Cuff, Sean Anderson•REPORT•1987

Avra Valley is a north-trending alluvial basin about 15 mi west of Tucson in Pima and Pinal Counties in south-central Arizona. The valley includes about 520 sq mi of which about 100 sq mi is in the San Xavier Indian Reservation. The basin is bounded on the east by the Tortolita, Tucson, and Sierrita Mountains and on the west by the Picacho, Silverbell, and Roskruge Mountains. The climate of the valley is semiarid, the average annual precipitation…
