Firearm Violence Prevention in Peril
Health risks and labour supply
This paper explores the relationship between health risks from COVID‐19 and UK labour supply, using pre‐existing conditions as a source of variation in COVID‐19 health risk. We find that those with pre‐existing conditions were less likely to work during the pandemic after controlling for a rich set of covariates, including labour supplied pre‐pandemic, but only when remote work was unavailable. This relationship begins by April 2020, persists thr…
Creation of standardized tools to evaluate reporting in health research
Despite increasing diversity in research recruitment, research finding reporting by gender, race, ethnicity, and sex has remained up to the discretion of authors. This study developped and piloted tools to standardize the inclusive reporting of gender, race, ethnicity, and sex in health research. A modified Delphi approach was used to develop standardized tools for the inclusive reporting of gender, race, ethnicity, and sex in health research. He…

Research on the Effects of Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs
We conducted a review of studies on the effects of hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIPs) on subsequent involvement in violence as a victim or perpetrator that included a nontreated control group. We identified seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and six observational studies. Most HVIPs evaluated relied principally on credible messengers to engage potential participants and intensive case management to provide social service…
Addressing the inappropriate use of force by police in the United States and beyond
Recent high‐profile incidents involving the deadly application of force in the United States sparked worldwide protests and renewed scrutiny of police practices as well as scrutiny of relations between police officers and minoritized communities. In this report, we consider the inappropriate use of force by police from the perspective of behavioral and social science inquiry related to aggression, violence, and intergroup relations. We examine th…
The impact of exposure to gun violence fatality on mental health outcomes in four urban U.S. settings
The Least of These
Each year 200,000 youth under the age of 18 are waived to adult criminal court, and African American males are disproportionately overrepresented among youth detained in adult jails. This population of vulnerable youth may be at greater risk for early violent death and HIV infection than youth detained in juvenile settings. The purpose of this study was to examine the social context of HIV risk behavior, substance misuse, and violence among youth…
