  • Municipal Fragmentation and Metropolitan Open Space Patterns

    Open Access•Stephan Schmidt, Wenzheng Li•ARTICLE•Urban Affairs Review•2026

Municipal fragmentation is a defining feature of U.S. metropolitan governance, yet its implications for open space provision remain theoretically contested. Drawing on public choice theory and regional governance perspectives, this study examines how fragmented governance shapes the amount, size, and accessibility of metropolitan open space. Using the Trust for Public Land's ParkServe dataset and measures of local government fragmentation across …

  • Far infrared intervention on brain changes in patients with alcohol dependence

Open Access•Yu Liu, Wenxiang Geng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

These findings suggest that while abstinence promotes brain reorganization, FIR therapy may provide additional support for neuroplasticity and cognitive stabilization, aiding in the structural recovery of key brain regions affected by Alcohol dependence. This study is preliminary in nature due to the modest sample size and the non-randomized design. Larger randomized controlled studies with longer follow-up are required to confirm the robustness …

  • Prevalence and clinical correlates of aggressive behavior in male inpatients with alcohol dependence during hospitalization

Open Access•Yang Liu, Yu Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Aggressive behavior is highly prevalent among hospitalized alcohol-dependent patients. Shorter sleep duration, higher suicide risk and decreased hemoglobin are significant clinical and hematological correlates of this behavior during hospitalization. These factors warrant clinical attention for risk assessment and management

  • Associations between suicide attempts and clinical, metabolic, and inflammatory markers in Chinese patients with long-term schizophrenia

Open Access•Lili Zhao, Lewei Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Female gender, greater depressive severity, and elevated metabolic and proinflammatory markers (specifically TC and IL-1β) were independently associated with increased risk of SA in Chinese patients with long-term SCZ. These findings suggest that future interventions targeting metabolic and inflammatory pathways may hold promise for preventing SA in this population

  • Sex differences in the association between metabolic disorder and inflammatory cytokines in Han Chinese patients with chronic schizophrenia

Open Access•Yinghan Tian, Zhenkuo Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Sex differences in the association between MD and IL-1β level are significant in patients with CS, and only in male patients is there a negative correlation between MD and IL-1β level. Sex-specific prevention and intervention strategies may contribute to reducing MD in patients with CS

Open Access•Zhiming Gui, Xin Wang et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2024

In the realm of intelligent transportation systems, accurately predicting vehicle trajectories is paramount for enhancing road safety and optimizing traffic flow management. Addressing the impacts of complex traffic environments and efficiently modeling the diverse behaviors of vehicles are the key challenges at present. To achieve precise prediction of vehicle trajectories, it is essential to fully consider the dynamic changes in traffic conditi…

  • Can spatial patterns mitigate the urban heat island effect? Evidence from German metropolitan regions

    Open Access•Wenzheng Li, Stephan Schmidt•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning B Urban…•2024

This study examines the efficacy of urban spatial patterns at alleviating the urban heat island (UHI) effect in Germany’s city regions ( Großstadtregionen) using multivariate and non-parametric regression methods. Urban spatial patterns are quantified using five landscape metrics that capture the spatial arrangement of urban footprints and greenspaces, along with a polycentricity index that measures the distribution of human activities. The resul…

  • Can polycentric urban development simultaneously achieve both economic growth and regional equity? A multi-scale analysis of German regions

Open Access•Wenzheng Li, Stephan Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2024

Polycentric urban regions have been advocated for, and justified as enhancing both economic growth and overall competitiveness while also creating more equitable and balanced metropolitan regions. We examine the role of regional polycentricity in effectuating certain desirable outcomes, specifically enhancing economic productivity and minimizing spatial disparities simultaneously in German urban regions ( Großstadtregionen) as a case study. Using…

  • Prevalence and associated factors of depression, anxiety and stress among clinical therapists in China in the context of early Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Rui Tao, Wenzheng Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

During the COVID-19 pandemic, depression, anxiety and stress were relatively common among clinical therapists in China. Regular physical activity and good sleep were important protective factors against emotional problems. Therefore, encouraging regular physical activity and actively addressing clinical therapists' sleep problems is beneficial to improving the ability to cope with negative emotions. The COVID-19 epidemic significantly increased a…

Open Access•Zhiwei Liu, Yulong Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Physical activity levels were influential factors in comorbid insomnia and depressive symptoms in CS patients. Given the benefits of physical activity, it should be strengthened as a routine adjunct to clinical treatment or psychiatric care so as to improve the physical and mental health of patients with psychiatric symptoms

  • The association between workload, alcohol use, and alcohol misuse among psychiatrists in China

Open Access•Wenzheng Li, Long Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Nearly half of the psychiatrists in China reported alcohol use and 8.1% had probable AUD. Alcohol consumption is significantly associated with several workload-related factors, such as long working hours, heavy caseload, and administrative duties. Alcohol misuse was inversely associated with the number of night shifts per month. While the direction of causality is unclear, our findings may help identify vulnerable professional groups and develop …

  • Association of higher plasma leptin levels with Homa-IR index, high sensitivity C-reactive protein and glycolipid metabolism in patients with chronic schizophrenia
