Associations between physical educators’ appearance and sex and high school pupils’ cognitive performance and perceptions of teacher characteristics
The importance of physical educators obtaining a discipline-specific appearance as role models is documented in the literature. Previous research has examined the influence of physical education teachers’ body fatness, (dis)ability, and age on pupils’ learning and perceptions of the teachers. To expand the research line, this study focused on teachers’ formal/informal appearance and their sex. Four 20-minute videos consisting of female informal a…
Friends With Benefits: Plausible Optimism and the Practice of Teabagging in Video Games
Recent scholarship in gaming studies has challenged the field to investigate and critique the hard core gaming audience (stereotypically seen as straight, White, cis-gendered male gamers) in a way that does not reinforce either the perceived marginalization of gamers or broader social hierarchies of gender, sexuality, and class. Han Sorya and North Korean Literature: The Failure of Socialist Realism in the DPRK
This first and only study of North Korean literary history by a Western scholar deals with the crucial role played by Han Sorya, chairman of the D.P.R.K.'s Federation of Literature and Art from 1948 to his purge in 1962, both in devising the iconography of Kim Il Sung's personality cult and in defining the early course of North Korean letters. Through brief studies of Han's own canonical works the author also sets out to dispel the widely-held as…
