    Open Access•Renate Fischer, Otfried Jarren•ARTICLE•Philosophy & Social Criticism•2024•Cited by: 4•References: 38

Democracy depends on a vivid public sphere, where ideas disseminate into the public and can be discussed – and challenged - by everyone. Journalism has contributed significantly to this social mediation by reducing complexity, providing information on salient topics and (planned) political solutions. The digital transformation of the public sphere leads to new forms of media provision, distribution, and use. Journalism has struggled to adapt to t…

  • What Constitutes a Local Public Sphere? Building a Monitoring Framework for Comparative Analysis

Open Access•Renate Fischer, Alexa Keinert et al.•ARTICLE•Media and Communication•2021

Despite the research tradition in analyzing public communication, local public spheres have been rather neglected by communication science, although they are crucial for social cohesion and democracy. Based on a participatory-liberal understanding of democracy, we develop a theoretical framework, from which we derive a moni…

    Renate Fischer•ARTICLE•Historiographia Linguistica•1999•Cited by: 1
