  • Earth construction from past to present

Open Access•Emmanuel Baudouin, Quentin Aubourg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anthropological…•2025•References: 26

Architectural studies are of great interest in considering variations in social phenomena. This ethnoarchaeological program therefore focuses on the evolution of building techniques, both in relation to the recent prehistory of Western Asia, and the current context through field surveys carried out in Djibouti. The aim of this article is to present the results of our study conducted in the Gobaad basin (2022–2023) among the Afar and Issa entities…

The small shelter of Combe-Grèze, located in a dolina of the Causse Noir plateau about ten kilometres northeast of Millau in Southwestern France, was first excavated in the second half of the 20th century, and more recently has been subject to new investigations by the authors of this contribution. The site was repeatedly occupied during the Holocene and has been widely referred to in neolithisation scenarios regarding the Mediterranean hinterlan…

  • Hydro-climatic fluctuations and their impact on Lake Abhe environments (Ethiopia & Djibouti)

Carlo Mologni, Laurent Bruxelles et al.•PREPRINT•2021

lt;p>Throughout the last 14 ka, tropical Africa experienced significant hydrological changes that were mainly driven by the orbital precession cycle, which controls the intensity of the African monsoon. Recent studies conducted in lake and deltaic sedimentary records suggest that long-term monsoon humid oscillations (African Humid Period / AHP ~14 – ~6 ka) were punctuated by centennial-scale episodes of hyperaridity. However, the abrupt or gradua…

  • Climate change and human lakeside adaptation in the Central Afar Region (Lake Abhe basin, Ethiopia & Djibouti) during the Later Stone Age - Neolithic transition

Carlo Mologni, Lamya Khalidi et al.•ARTICLE•2020

lt;p>Throughout the last 20 ka, tropical Africa was the site of significant hydrological changes related to variations in the intensity of the African monsoon. Recent studies conducted in lake and deltaic sedimentary records suggest that gradual long-term monsoon humid oscillations (African Humid Period ~14 – ~6 ka) were punctuated by centennial-scale episodes of hyperaridity (HS1, YD, 8.2 ka, 4.2 ka). These abrupt hydrological changes could have…

  • Charcoal analysis at Limon-Raspail (Vaucluse, Southeastern France)

Open Access•Janet Battentier, Jessie Cauliez et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2019•References: 12

The charcoal analysis of the Late Neolithic open-air settlement of Limon-Raspail (Southeastern France, 2880-2580 cal. B.C.) documents the vegetal landscape and its management in the Mediterranean hinterland, between the Rhone lower alluvial plain and the alpine foothills, during a period of increasing agro-pastoral pressure and territorial competition. This area at the edge of the Mediterranean influence is poorly documented at this time while th…

  • New insights on the first Neolithic societies in the Horn of Africa

Xavier Gutherz, Joséphine Lesur et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2015•Cited by: 7•References: 4

The site of Wakrita is a small Neolithic establishment located on a wadi in the tectonic depression of Gobaad in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa. The 2005 excavations yielded abundant ceramics that enabled us to define one Neolithic cultural facies of this region, which was also identified at the nearby site of Asa Koma. The faunal remains confirm the importance of fishing in Neolithic settlements close to Lake Abbé, but also the importance of bov…

    Open Access•Jessie Cauliez•ARTICLE•Gallia préhistoire•2011•Cited by: 6•References: 14

In 2010, we published a historiographic review of the end of the Neolithic in southeastern France, and in particular, the chronocultural reference sequences and their limits. The main resulting observation was the difficulty of modeling intra-and extraregional interactions. We also discussed the significant constraints inherent in the construction of periodizations based on very disparate and unequal data. To diminish these numerous incertitudes,…

    Open Access•Jessie Cauliez•ARTICLE•Gallia préhistoire•2010•Cited by: 1
