Dark Triad Traits, Social Position, and Personality
This research explores the Dark Triad traits in 18 cultures from Europe, America, Africa, and Asia. We examined the relationships among Dark Triad traits, as measured by the SD3, with gender, age, social status, and two personality models, HEXACO and Zuckerman’s alternative five factor model (AFFM). There were 10,298 participants (5,410 women and 4,888 men) with a mean age of 40.31 ( SD = 17.32) years old. Between 6% and 16% of the variance in th…
Relationships Between Big Five Personality Factors and Values
An analysis of principal components showed a robust structure of three factors formed by 25 of the 30 values studied. These factors were called Social Power, Order and Benevolence values. Those factors match with some of Schwartz's (1992) types of values. Sex differences and correlations between traits and values replicate other authors' findings. Path analysis results, performed separately for females and males, yielded a better fit for the fema…
Relationship Between Empathy and the Big Five Personality Traits in a Sample of Spanish Adolescents
Empathy has been considered a central feature of our temperamental dispositions in childhood and adolescence. It plays a central role in the development of prosocial behavior and moral reasoning. However, the links between empathy and the major factors of personality have not yet been well described. This study explores the relationships between an index of empathy and the Big-Five personality model in a sample of 832 Spanish adolescents. As expe…
Bryant's Empathy Index for Children and Adolescents
The present study investigated the following issues: (1) the structure of Bryant's Empathy Index for children and adolescents in a Spanish sample of 408 boys and 424 girls (M age=14.4 yr.), and (2) sex differences, including effect sizes and internal consistency of the scale. A principal components factor analysis with oblimin rotation showed that 20 of the index's 22 items load on three robust factors, related to Feelings of Sadness, Understandi…
