  • Health Resilience and Inequality in Healthcare Utilization: A Longitudinal Comparison Between North Korean Refugees and South Korean Residents

Open Access•Ki-Bong Yoo, Ki‐Bong Yoo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Migration and Health•2026

Refugees’ healthcare use stabilizes after a six-month recovery period. • Persistent gaps reflect enduring health inequality despite similar slopes. • Refugees’ lower mortality aligns with a healthy-migrant or salmon effect. This study compared the long-term patterns of healthcare utilization and health status of North Korean refugees (NKRs) and South Korean residents following the refugees’ resettlement in South Korea. This population-based cohor…

  • Changes in dementia treatment patterns associated with changes in the National Policy in South Korea among patients with newly diagnosed Alzheimer’s disease between 2011 and 2017: Results from the mul…

Open Access•Young Jin Kim, Ki-Youn So et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Comparison of cohorts before and after revision of the national LTCI system for dementia patients found no significant difference in mean MMSE scores at the time of AD diagnosis or start of initial treatment. The reduction in the proportion of patients who discontinued or changed their initial treatment, and the significant increase in mean duration of treatment, were observed following revision of the LTCI policy which enabled increased patient …

  • Antiviral activity of Chongkukjang extracts against influenza A virus in vitro and in vivo

    Open Access•Bai Wei, Se-Yeoun Cha et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnic Foods•2015•References: 23

Chongkukjang is a traditional Korean fermented product prepared from soybeans and reported to have multiple biological functions, including antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, and neuroprotective effects. Influenza is a respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses and continues to be a worldwide threat with a high potential to cause pandemics. Besides vaccination, only two classes of drugs are available for antiviral treatment against these pathog…

  • Assessment of Social Network Change in a National Longitudinal Survey

    B Cornwell, L Phillip Schumm et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2014•Cited by: 40•References: 15

These data provide new insight into the dynamic nature of networks in later life, revealing norms of network turnover, expansion, and weakening. Data limitations are discussed

  • Momentum Under a Gradual Approach to Zero Growth

Robert Schoen, Young Jin Kim•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1998•Cited by: 6

A population's growth potential is significantly underestimated by conventional calculations of population momentum which assume an immediate drop to replacement level fertility. Here we assume that the growth rate of births linearly declines to zero over a specified time interval, and find simple and intuitively meaningful expressions for the size of the ultimate birth cohort and the resultant population momentum. In particular, we find that the…

Open Access•Cheryl S Alexander, Cheryl Alexander et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Youth and Adolescence•1993•Cited by: 9•References: 8

  • Movement toward stability as a fundamental principle of population dynamics

    Open Access•Robert Schoen, Young Jin Kim•ARTICLE•Demography•1991•Cited by: 3•References: 10

Although convergence to stability is typically a complex and irregular process, the Kullback distance provides a measure that moves consistently to 0 as a population becomes stable. The roots of the Kullback distance are in information theory. but it is a meaningful demographic quantity. It reflects a population’s log momentum, or the amount of growth built into a population’s nonstable age distribution. The rate at which the Kullback distance mo…

  • The Effect of Fecundity of Pill Acceptance During Postpartum Amenorrhea: Reply

Young Jin Kim•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1983

The purpose of this article is to clarify the design of a study on the results of pill acceptance during postpartum amenorrhea and the subsequent effects on the birth interval. Results of this initial study suggest that the pill acceptors experienced a shorted birth interval than nonacceptors. Alleged problems in the study design include the exclusion of women using other means of birth control than the pill as well as an exclusion of other pill …
