  • Exploring the relationship between multiple dimensions of subjective socioeconomic status and self-reported physical and mental health: The mediating role of affect

Open Access•Philip Kraft, Pål Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the predictive effects of two types of subjective socioeconomic status on self-reported physical and mental health. Specifically, we examined the MacArthur Scale (MacArthur) which measures perceived socioeconomic rank in the society and a novel scale called ComSim, which assessed how participants compared themselves socioeconomically to others coming from a similar socioeconomic background. We also co…

  • A web-based intervention trial for depressive symptoms and subjective well-being in patients with chronic HIV infection

Filip Drozd, Linda Gail Skeie et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

The current study examined the efficacy of a web-based intervention (WBI; Avanti) on symptoms of depression and well-being for patients diagnosed with HIV. A two-armed randomized trial recruited patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) at an outpatient clinic. Thirty-six patients were allocated to Avanti and 31 patients to a control group. Primary outcomes were symptoms of depression and subjective well-being (SWB), and secondary outcomes include…

  • Activity Engagement as Escape from Self: The Role of Self-Suppression and Self-Expansion

Frode Stenseng, Jostein Rise et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2012•Cited by: 6•References: 46

A two-dimensional model on escape motives in activity engagement was developed in three studies. We suggested that motivation to escape the self through engagement in an activity partly derives from intentions to either prevent negative affect or to promote positive affect. A scale for measuring these intentional mindsets was developed consisting of the subcategories self-suppression and self-expansion. Results showed that the dimensions were dif…

  • The dark side of leisure: Obsessive passion and its covariates and outcomes

Frode Stenseng, Jostein Rise et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•2011•Cited by: 7•References: 28

The present paper challenges the notion that engagement in leisure activities is exclusively conducive to well‐being. By applying the Dualistic Model of Passion in a leisure context on 467 participants, the measurement of obsessive passion for a leisure activity was related to indicators of ill‐being and unrelated to general well‐being. In Study 1, obsessive passion for a leisure activity was associated with activity addiction, escapism engagemen…

  • Emotion Regulation: Antecedents and Well-Being Outcomes of Cognitive Reappraisal and Expressive Suppression in Cross-Cultural Samples

Open Access•Silje Marie Haga, Philip Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Happiness Studies•2009

  • Control Constructs: Do They Mediate the Relation between Educational Attainment and Health Behaviour

Anette Leganger, Philip Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2003•Cited by: 13•References: 44

Health promoting behaviours seem to be more prevalent among people with higher socio-economic status (SES). The main purpose of this article was to study (a) the relationship between education (as a dimension of SES) and intention and health behaviour (fruit/vegetable consumption), (b) the relationship between education and control conceptualizations (health locus of control (HLC), responseefficacy and self-efficacy) and (c) to what extent the re…

  • Expanding the Theory of Planned Behaviour: The Role of Social Norms and Group Identification

Open Access•Zelalem Fekadu, Philip Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2002•Cited by: 6•References: 41

The purposes of the study were twofold. First, to explore the predictive power of the descriptive and group norms, when the effect of subjective norm had already been accounted for. Second, to investigate to what extent perceived group norm of a behaviourally relevant reference group would predict the intention to use contraception among those who identified strongly with the relevant reference group. The empirical data were generated from a samp…

  • Self-Identity in Planned Behavior Perspective: Past Behavior and Its Moderating Effects on Self-Identity-Intention Relations

Open Access•Zelalem Fekadu, Philip Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2001

The self-identity and past behavior measures were included in a structured TPB (Theory of Planned Behavior) questionnaire, with the major aim of providing support for the hypothesized main and interaction effects. Results supported the validity of the TPB model, with subjective norm as the strongest predictor of intention. In addition, self-identity (β=.10, p <.049), and past behavior (β=.25, p <.001) emerged as significant predictors of intentio…

  • The Relationship between Body Image and Depressed Mood in Adolescence: A 5-year Longitudinal Panel Study

Open Access•Ingrid Holsen, Philip Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2001•Cited by: 23•References: 36

Much research interest has been devoted to reveal the psychosocial processes associated with the development of depressive symptoms during adolescence. One of the important factors that has been studied is body image. In a 5-year longitudinal investigation, we revealed and discussed the relationship between body image and depressed mood in a cohort of adolescents at ages 13, 15 and 18. Girls reported on average higher depressed mood levels and mo…

  • Prediction of attitudes towards restrictive aids policies: A structural equation modelling approach
