  • “Try To Remember/The Way We Were”

Michael Gillespie, Michael Boyce Gillespie•ARTICLE•Camera Obscura Feminism Culture…•2026

Thinking with Morgan Quaintance's Missing Time (UK, 2019), the article considers the politics of methodology and film analysis for the study of black film. Concentrated on film blackness, the essay explores issues of ambivalence, aesthetics, abstraction, the essay film, experimental cinema, and Cold War historiographies. Thus, the essay seeks to propose alternate values for the study of black film that might give more attention to the formal oper…

  • A Companion to Friedrich Nietzsche

Paul Bishop, Adrian Del Caro et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Companion to Friedrich Nietzsche•2012

An advanced introduction for students and a re-orientation for Nietzsche scholars and intellectual historians on the development of his thought and the aesthetic construction of his identity as a philosopher. Nietzsche looms over modern literature and thought; according to Gottfried Benn, "everything my generation discussed, thought through innerly; one could say: suffered; or one could even say: took to the point of exhaustion -- allof it had al…

  • Family Diversity and Children's Behavioral Outcomes in Canada

    Teresa Abada, Teresa S J Abada et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Focus•2007•References: 11

Using data from the 1994/1995 and 1996/1997 Canadian National Longitudinal Survey for Children and Youth, we explore the roles of economic resources and family processes as explanations for family structure differences on children's internalizing (emotional disorder) and externalizing (physical aggression and property offenses) behaviors. Our results show that household income was significant for children's internalizing behavior but was not subs…

This study examined ethnic differences in the link between anger experience and anger inhibition and that of circulatory disease (CD). To ascertain the effects of anger inhibition in older persons, health data from groups of African American, African Caribbean, Eastern European and European American adults were collected. Experienced anger and anger inhibition were significant predictors of CD only for the African American group and the relation …

  • Specification Error and Negatively Correlated Disturbances in 'Parallel' Simultaneous-Equation Models

    Open Access•Michael W Gillespie, Michael Gillespie et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1980•Cited by: 3•References: 10

This article attempts to explain negatively correlated disturbances in 'parallel' simultaneous-equation models in which each equation contains essentially the same variables as the others but is written for a different position of the social system under study. The two general methodological explanations presented are: random error in the measures of the endogenous variables and upward bias in the calculation of the (positively signed) reciprocal…

  • Log-Linear Techniques and the Regression Analysis of Dummy Dependent Variables

    Open Access•Michael W Gillespie, Michael Gillespie•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1977•Cited by: 17•References: 11

Although previous comparisons of log-linear techniques with the regression analysis of dummy dependent variables have focused on the statistical superiority of the log-linear techniques, this paper presents three advantages of dummy dependent-variable regressions. First, dummy dependent-variable regression is able to accommodate both categorical and continuous independent variables. Second, the calculation of indirect effects and reciprocal effec…
