African polyvalent antivenom can maintain pharmacological stability and ability to neutralise murine venom lethality for decades post-expiry
INTRODUCTION: Antivenom is a lifesaving medicine for treating snakebite envenoming, yet there has been a crisis in antivenom supply for many decades. Despite this, substantial quantities of antivenom stocks expire before use. This study has investigated whether expired antivenoms retain preclinical quality and efficacy, with the rationale that they could be used in emergency situations when in-date antivenom is unavailable. Anti-Asian American Discrimination and Covid-19
Previous research has demonstrated the deleterious effects of discrimination on health and well-being, as well as how these incidents maintain and/or increase inequalities and disparities for marginalized groups. As such, it is important to uncover the lived experiences of Asian Americans, in the context…

Understanding the Power of Social Media during Covid-19
Social media serves as a key mechanism for sexual minority young adults to connect with peers and to learn about COVID-19. We utilized focus groups to explore how sexual minority gender expansive college women (N= 28) engage with social media, including alcohol-related content on social networking sites. Two focus groups were held in-person during the month before the campus closed on March 10, 2020 due to a shelter-in-place mandate. Focus groups…

Accounts of Thriving in the Face of Discrimination for Latina/o Undergraduate Students
Latina/o undergraduate students face many challenges, including campus climate and ethnic discrimination, which are tied to mental health problems and lower academic achievement. While always difficult, many students have reported a growth in awareness and determination afterward. Thriving or being “better off” after an adversity focuses on such perceived gains. This study explores the experiences of Latina/o undergraduate with discrimination and…
I Feel Like We’re Going Backwards
The 2016 U.S. presidential election brought many reactions on a global scale. World leaders, national leaders, and everyday citizens experienced intense emotions on varying levels. Latinx communities in the U.S., specifically, were impacted significantly, with rhetoric about immigration and issues regarding border security (i.e., build a wall). While much about these sentiments have been reported at the journalistic level, little has been publish…
Thriving and Ethnic Discrimination
Using mixed methodology, the authors examined facilitators to psychological thriving-or positive changes after adversity-in the context of ethnic discrimination among Latina/o adults. Several themes emerged from qualitative interviews (n = 10), including proving others wrong, ethnic identity, and community involvement. Quantitative analyses (n = 97) indicated that U.S. identity moderated the relationship between ethnic microaggressions and thrivi…
Assessment of the Microbiological Quality of Groundwater in Three Regions of the Valencian Community (Spain)
Urban groundwater development was traditionally constrained by concerns about its quality. This study was conducted in the regions of La Ribera Alta and Ribera Baja and La Plana de Requena-Utiel of the Valencian Community (Valencia, Spain) where population density, demand for drinking water and agricultural activities are high. Groundwater bodies (GWBs) are regarded as management areas within each territory, and were used to establish protection …
