Digital versus physical “face-to-face” research interview: What difference does it make from a psychosocial point of view?
This article examines the psychosocial implications of conducting qualitative research interviews via videoconferencing technologies. Traditionally conceived as embodied, co-constructed encounters situated within specific physical, social, and symbolic contexts, qualitative research interviews occupy a central position in the interpretative and constructivist paradigms of psychological research. The rapid normalization of online interviewing -acc…
Continuity and Transformation of Collective Memory: A Psychosocial Approach to Historical Narratives
This article examines the transmission of historical narratives from a psychosocial perspective, highlighting the central role of collective memory in the construction of social reality. Here, memory is conceptualised as a dynamic process, simultaneously structured by stable elements that ensure identity cohesion as well as reshaped by current social and political contexts. Within this dialectic between continuity and transformation, collective m…
A Contribution to the Study of Collective Forgetting Through the Lens of Social Representations and Transmission
This article explores collective forgetting as a socially constructed phenomenon. While memory has been the subject of numerous studies in the field of social psychology, forgetting remains largely untheorized, particularly in its social, cultural and political dimensions. Drawing on Social Representation Theory and qualitative research, we argue that forgetting is not simply an individual cognitive failure or the effect of the unconscious, but t…

Social representations of European history by the European youth: A cross-country comparison
The present manuscript examines the way young Europeans represent Europe’s history. A study conducted in 11 European countries (N = 1406 students in social sciences) shows that the characters considered most important in the history of Europe are mostly men linked either to WW2, authoritarianism, or conquests and empires. Although these appear later in the rankings and despite some imbalance between countries, Europe’s history is also associated …
Social representations of psychology: When paradoxes become a strength
This article investigates the understanding by different groups of what psychology is and what psychologists do. We first recall some of the tensions that fuelled the discipline and underpinned its institutionalization in France. Then, drawing on social representations (SR) theory and on the wind-rose model, we explore how SR of psychology and of the psychologist are developed in two different groups and when these groups come together. The first…
The past and present of triangulation and social representations theory: A crossed history
This paper examines some of the main processes in the evolution of triangulation in qualitative research (QR) and social representations theory (SRT) in social psychology in recent decades. By adopting a cross-historical approach, we seek to outline how SRT can strengthen its epistemological approach by embracing triangulation, and to highlight that an examination of past and current debates on SRT can provide relevant insights for QR in psycholo…
Rumour as a symptom of collective forgetfulness
This psychosocial study attempts to shed light on the essential distinction between memory and recollection, and suggests a view of forgetfulness in terms of its intrinsic links with transmission. We study the effects and manifestations of collective forgetfulness, which still remain under-explored in psychology. The relatively recent case of a rumour that offered an explanation for and asserted the unprecedented character of a natural disaster—a…
More than a Theory: A New Map of Social Thought
In this article we revisit two different temporal phases related to the publication of Serge Moscovici's book La Psychanalyse, son image et son public , and we examine two key concepts of the theory: cognitive polyphasia and anchoring. The first phase, initiated by the Durkheimian circle, gives us an opportunity to retrieve traces of the intellectual debate about collective psychology and reconsider this debate in today's light. The second, more …
