Fine-tuned feelings, focused attention: How emotional granularity shapes our attention to national symbols
Emotional granularity—the ability to make fine-grained distinctions between emotional states—has been linked to adaptive emotion regulation and attentional control. However, its influence on attentional bias toward culturally salient stimuli, such as national symbols, remains underexplored. Using a dot-probe paradigm, this study investigated how positive emotional granularity (PEG) modulates attentional bias toward Chinese versus Non-Chinese imag…

Scale-based screening and assessment of age-related frailty
As the population ages, the prevalence of age-related frailty increases sharply, which increases the risk of poor health status of older adults, such as disability, falls, hospitalization, and death. Across the globe, frailty is moving toward the forefront of health and medical research. Currently, frailty is believed to be preventable and reversible, so the early identification of frailty is critical. However, there are neither precise biomarker…

Probability distribution of dependency distance and dependency type in translational language
As a “third code”, translational language attracts considerable attention in linguistics research due to its distinctive features. Adopting the quantitative linguistic approach, the current study examines its features by investigating the mean dependency distance (MDD), as well as the probability distribution of the individual dependency distances (DDs) and distribution of a high-frequency dependency type in translational language. The MDD and th…

Can dependency distance and direction be used to differentiate translational language from native language
Menthol decreases oral nicotine aversion in C57BL/6 mice through a TRPM8-dependent mechanism
Oral menthol can reduce the aversive effects of oral nicotine and, at higher concentrations, acts as an irritant by itself. Menthol's effects in relation to nicotine require TRPM8, the cool temperature sensing ion channel that activates analgesic and counterirritant mechanisms. These mechanisms may underlie preference for menthol-containing smokeless tobacco products and may facilitate initiation of product use
