Collinearity, Power, and Interpretation of Multiple Regression Analysis
Multiple regression analysis is one of the most widely used statistical procedures for both scholarly and applied marketing research. Yet, correlated predictor variables—and potential collinearity effects—are a common concern in interpretation of regression estimates. Though the literature on ways of coping with collinearity is extensive, relatively little effort has been made to clarify the conditions under which collinearity affects estimates d…
Reliability of Nominal Data Based on Qualitative Judgments
Most research related to the reliability and validity of marketing measures has focused on multi-item quantitative scales. In contrast, little attention has been given to the quality of nominal scale data developed from qualitative judgments. Judgment-based (“coded”) nominal scale data are important and frequently used in marketing research-for example, in analysis of consumer responses to open-ended survey questions, in cognitive response resear…

Influence strategy mixes in complex organizations
This paper proposes and evaluates a model of the choice and context of individual influence strategy mixes between dyads in complex organizational systems. Such influence strategy mixes are relevant to dyads from the same work group subsystem and from different work group subsystems, as well as to dyads from different organizational systems. An empirical taxonomy of influence strategy mixes is developed and the choice of a particular influence mi…
A Psychographic Classification of Vacation Life Styles
This paper suggests that psychographic scales can be used to operationalize and test Feldman and Thielbar's contentions about vacation life styles. The approach involves use of the leisure literature and focused group interviews to generate a pool of psychographic statements that reflect vacation activities, interests, and opinions (AIOs). These are then pretested, scaled and used on the final questionnaire. Using hierarchical cluster procedures,…
A Multivariate Analysis of Media Exposure and Vacation Behavior with Life Style Covariates
Two different multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) models are used to examine the relationship between selected media exposure groups and market behaviors. The dependent vector variable in the first model is vacation behaviors which is adjusted for covariance with interest-specific AIO measures in the second model
