  • Reconceptualizing Consumer Responsibility

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•ETHICS IN PROGRESS•2025

Conceptual papers reflect a researcher’s theoretical thoughts and philosophical speculations about a topic and are especially useful for generating ideas that incentivize theory development. This conceptual paper shares a philosophical reconceptualization of consumer responsibility, which people traditionally approach using rosters of corresponding responsibilities and rights. After profiling rosters from both the United Nations and Consumers Int…

  • Ethical Considerations in Research about Organizations

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•ETHICS IN PROGRESS•2023

This paper concerns ethical considerations when conducting research about the policies, procedures, practices, and culture of organizations and institutions rather than research with the humans owning, operating, employed at, volunteering for, benefiting from, or impacted by the organization. Ethical conventions for research with humans are well developed but less so for research about organizations. A pressing concern in the nascent literature i…

  • Conceptualizing a transdisciplinary nexus for addressing complex problems

    Open Access•Philip Gibbs, Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Futures•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 7

We envision opening a way of perceiving the transdisciplinary Hidden Third as a transcendental nexus of both passive and active causal powers reflecting and engaged with the external structures that create the complex social realities in which we live. It is in these realities and their possible worlds that the revealing of our relational capacities and activating (actualising) potentialities occurs. We propose that innovative and co-created solu…

  • Transdisciplinary Teacher Education

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2022

This position paper proposes that teacher education programs should shift from preparing teachers who are consumers and perpetuators of grand narrative knowledge to teachers who are creators and knowers of transdisciplinary (TD) knowledge and perpetuators of a TD narrative. To that end, the Nicolescuian TD methodology, especially epistemology, was introduced as a new grounding for knowledge that can lead to transdisciplinary teacher education. Th…

  • Women’s role in nation building

    Sue L T Mcgregor, Amani K Hamdan Alghamdi•ARTICLE•School Leadership and Management•2022

This paper is about socialising Saudi female preservice teachers (PSTs) while they are attending university into the role of educational leadership. This leadership role should be broadened to include nation building per the tenets of Saudi Arabia’s national development plan, Vision 2030. After discussing nation building and profiling the Saudi educational context (including educational reform initiatives), and after explaining Islamic understand…

  • Conceptualizing Transdisciplinary Human Ecology

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Human Ecology Review•2021

Broadening theoretical and methodological underpinnings will help human ecology professionals remain effective in responding to complex crises facing humanity (e.g., climate change, environmental degradation, social inequality). Diversified theoretical offerings strengthen academic and professional work, because diversity drives innovation in practice. This paper explores transdisciplinary human ecology, a neologism proposed in the early 1990s by…

  • Integral Metatheory

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Family and Consumer Sciences…•2009•References: 13

Recent family and consumer science (FCS) conceptualizations of specialization embrace the notions of interdisciplinary specialist, integration of perspectives, integral specialist and a generalist in transdisciplinarity. These innovations open the door for a conversation around the impact of research methodologies (different from methods) on the profession’s body of knowledge. Conventional metatheory is explained, with four examples from the fiel…

  • Conceptualizing Immoral and Unethical Consumption Using Neutralization Theory

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Family and Consumer Sciences…•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 18

Neutralization is a defense mechanism through which people downplay the repercussions of their behavior. This article demonstrates the ability of neutralization theory (especially 13 neutralization techniques) to contribute theoretical understandings into how consumers can justify the negative impacts of their purchasing behavior, how they can continually or periodically rationalize their less than moral and ethical consumption decisions. Guided …

  • Modeling the Evolution of a Policy Network Using Network Analysis

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor•ARTICLE•Family and Consumer Sciences…•2004•References: 8

A six‐stage model was developed to conceptualize the evolutionary process for policy networks, using the 20‐year evolution of the Canadian Electronic Funds Transfer System/Point Of Sale (EFTS/POS) policy network as an example. A content analysis of 231 policy documents was used to create individual case studies of 16 stakeholders. These cases were vetted with respective stakeholders and then amalgamated into one large, chronological case study. T…

  • Neoliberalism and health care

    Open Access•Sue L T Mcgregor, Sue McGregor•ARTICLE•International Journal of Consumer…•2001

Within the context of globalization, health care reform is occurring around the world. This paper explores the neoliberal mind set shaping health care reform in the UK, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand. Neoliberalism is comprised of three principles: individualism, free market via privatization and deregulation, and decentralization. After describing the nature of a health care system that is shaped by those embracing this mind se…
