Reputation or Norms? Unravelling the Mechanisms of Eye Cues in Promoting Social Mindfulness
Eye cues have been shown to promote prosocial behaviours, yet their impact on social mindfulness and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study conducted two experiments using an adapted Social Mindfulness paradigm to investigate the effects of various eye cues on social mindfulness, focusing on reputation management and norm compliance. Experiment 1 compared the effects of eye cues, flowers, and a no‐cue condition on social mindfulness…
Non-Linear Impacts of Built Environments with Parking Facility Provision on Commuting Mode Choices
Despite the critical role of parking supply in urban transportation, the nonlinear relationship between parking facilities and commute mode choice remains poorly understood. This study systematically examines the nonlinear influences of the built environment, with a focus on parking facilities, on commuting mode choice using 2019 survey data from Xi’an. A Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) model combined with Accumulated Local Effects (ALE) a…

Chloroplast DNA Phylogeography of Osmanthus cooperi
Climatic and geographical factors shape genetic diversity and distribution patterns of species. Osmanthus cooperi , a wild companion plant in China’s subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests, exhibits complex phylogeographic structure but faces threats from low competitiveness and anthropogenic pressures, necessitating further investigation. To clarify its phylogeographic history and population dynamics, we analyzed chloroplast DNA ( psbA-trnH …
Changes in life expectancy across selected countries in the Western Pacific Region and their underlying risk factors, 1990–2021
Despite the efforts from the government and WHO in the WPR, the gaps between lower-middle-income and high-income countries remain substantial and further enlarged because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Long-term reductions in mortality and gains in life expectancy in all observed countries in the Region require the further modification of the profile of the underlying risks

Background: As hypertensive heart disease (HHD) presents a significant public health challenge globally, we analysed its global, regional, and national burdens and trends from 1990 to 2019. Methods: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 study, focussing on the age-standardised prevalence rates (ASPRs) of HHD prevalence, age-standardised disability-adjusted life year (DALY) rates, average annual percentage change (AAPC), and ri…
Metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease among adult cancer patients
Among adult cancer patients, over two-fifths (45.44%) were estimated to have MetS, while about one-fifth (19.23%) were considered to have CVD. Notably, obesity, elevated BP, high glucose, low HDL-C, and higher number of MetS components were found to be significantly associated with higher CVD prevalence among cancer adults. Cancer patients under 65 and women with MetS may be at increased risk of CVD

An Ontology-Based Knowledge Representation Method for Typhoon Events from Chinese News Reports
Typhoons are destructive weather events. News media reports contain large amounts of typhoon information. Transforming this information into useful knowledge to provide a basis for mining typhoon knowledge and supporting disaster prevention and relief is urgently required to solve this problem. Knowledge representation can be used to address this problem, although it presents several challenges. These challenges lie in expressing the static and d…
Spatial-temporal variations and trends of Internet users
This study investigated the spatial-temporal variation and trend of the Internet user percentage (IUP) at the country level in the world from 1996 to 2017. Several methods were applied including kernel density estimation, global autocorrelations, sigma-convergence detection, and hierarchical clustering. The results demonstrated that the spatial distribution of IUP at the country level showed significant positive autocorrelations indicating cluste…

Challenges in Radiocarbon Dating Organic Carbon in Opal-Rich Marine Sediments
We explored the reliability of radiocarbon ages obtained on organic carbon phases in opal-rich Southern Ocean sediments. Paired biogenic carbonate and total organic carbon (TOC) 14 C analyses for three Southern Ocean cores showed that the TOC ages were systematically younger than the carbonate ages. Carbonate ages were consistent with oxygen isotopic and bio-stratigraphy, indicating error in TOC ages that could be explained by 5–24% of modern car…
