  • Efficient organized colorectal cancer screening in Shenzhen: A microsimulation modelling study

Open Access•Minmin Zhu, Xuan Zhong et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

This study identifies efficient CRC screening strategies for the average-risk population in Shenzhen. Most efficient screening strategies indeed start at age 40, but the optimal starting age depends on the chosen willingness-to-pay threshold. Within insufficient colonoscopy resources, efficient FIT and NCPCS screening strategies might be CRC initial screening strategies. We acknowledged the age-dependency bias of the results with NCPCS and RS

  • Failed policy attempts for measuring English speaking abilities in college entrance exams: Cases from China, Japan, and South Korea

Open Access•Yuko Goto Butler, Jiyoon Lee et al.•ARTICLE•English Today•2022

English as a foreign language education in East Asia has received repeated criticism for its lack of success in developing sufficient English oral proficiency among its students (Muller at al., 2014). In response to the criticism, the governments of China, Japan and South Korea attempted to include assessment of students’ speaking abilities as part of their high-stakes college entrance exams, hoping for positive washback effects in both primary- …

  • Young learners’ voices: Towards a learner-centered approach to understanding language assessment literacy

Open Access•Yuko Goto Butler, Xiaolin Peng et al.•ARTICLE•Language Testing•2021

Language assessment literacy (LAL) has recently gained substantial attention among language educators and other stakeholders. However, existing models focus almost exclusively on teachers, test developers, and administrators, and lack students’ perspectives in their conceptualizations. To address this gap, with this exploratory study we aimed to understand young learners’ LAL. The participants were fourth- and sixth-grade students (ages 9–10 and …

  • Multiple Stakeholder Interaction to Enhance Preservice Teachers' Language Assessment Literacy

Open Access•Jiyoon Lee, Yuko Goto Butler et al.•ARTICLE•Languages•2021•References: 23

Conducted in a U.S. English-to-Speakers-of-Other-Languages (ESOL) preservice teacher education program, this case study aimed to explore a dynamic process of preservice teachers' development of language assessment literacy (LAL). By inviting multiple stakeholders, namely preservice teachers, an inservice teacher and her ESOL students, and their course instructor, this study closely examined the interaction among the stakeholders during a semester…

  • Colonoscopy Screening Behaviour and Associated Factors Amongst First-Degree Relatives of People with Colorectal Cancer in China: Testing the Health Belief Model Using a Cross-Sectional Design

Open Access•Yang Bai, Cho Lee Wong et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Colonoscopy is the best screening choice for at-risk persons, because it offers prevention through the removal of preneoplastic lesions in addition to early detection. This study aims to report the participation rate of colonoscopy screening and examine its associated factors amongst Chinese first-degree relatives of people with colorectal cancer based on the health belief model (HBM). A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shenzhen, China from…

  • Temporal and Spatial Features of the Correlation between PM2.5 and O3 Concentrations in China

Open Access•Jiajia Chen, Huanfeng Shen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

In recent years, particulate matter of 2.5 μm or less (PM 2.5 ) pollution in China has decreased but, at the same time, ozone (O 3 ) pollution has become increasingly serious. Due to the different research areas and research periods, the existing analyses of the correlation between PM 2.5 and O 3 have reached different conclusions. In order to clarify the relationship between PM 2.5 and O 3 , this study selected mainland China as the research are…
