  • Telework as a childcare policy

    A I Romens, Stéphanie Vincent et al.•ARTICLE•Community Work & Family•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 38

The closure of schools and preschools due to the Covid-19 pandemic constrained millions of workers with children to modify their care arrangements. In Italy and France, governments adopted different measures to support parents in handling the additional care workload, including promoting access to telework. However, we argue that equating access to telework to a childcare policy, especially during the pandemic, had significant consequences in ter…

  • Robber Barons and Wretched Refuse

    Open Access•Stéphanie Vincent•ARTICLE•Pennsylvania History A Journal of…•2023

Across the United States, debates rage over the presence of immigrants in the workplace. Yet as Robert Zeidel’s Robber Barons and Wretched Refuse shows, not only is this conversation not new, but it also played a fundamental role in shaping American labor policy as well as public reaction to those who arrived at the nation’s borders. Robber Barons and Wretched Refuse seeks to understand the seemingly contradictory position of industrialists from …

  • Who are the limited users of digital systems and media? An examination of U.K. evidence

    Open Access•Yate, Simeon J Yates et al.•ARTICLE•First Monday•2020

This paper presents findings on the correspondence of levels of digital systems and media use with a range of socio-economic and demographic measures in the U.K. Most research on inequalities in regard to digital systems and media has focused on access and skills. Building on prior work (Yates and Lockley, 2018; Yates, et al., 2015) we argue that inequalities in regard to digital systems and media are better understood around types of user and th…

  • Social memory assets as a defense mechanism

    Stéphanie Vincent•ARTICLE•Management & Organizational History•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Organizations fall back on their identities in times of uncertainty as a way of making sense of unfamiliar situations and to reflect on their values in the face of attack. Identity formation is inextricably linked to memory, both that of the individual organization and its members and the collective memory of the society in which it functions. The collective memory of the United States holds wartime service in high esteem, and for an organization…

  • A Bull in Our China Shop

    Open Access•Stéphanie Vincent•ARTICLE•Enterprise & Society•2018•References: 11

From its beginning, the American pottery industry had to contend with the presence of imports. At first, manufacturers coped by promoting their own products and striving to improve design and quality. However, when Japan began importing china in greater quantities, American potters faced a challenge unlike any before. Initial attempts to attack imports outright through boycotts met with limited success through World War II. Following the peace, C…
