This essay explores connections between the poetries of Nelly Sachs and Paul Celan, narrating a series of encounters with their work so as to show how history shapes interpretation. The essay also explores the role of reading in personal growth and interpersonal communication, juxtaposing conversation between the two poets with conversations about their work
