  • A New Development in Front Group Strategy

Open Access•Rachel Joanne Pietracatella, Rachel Pietracatella et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Communication•2020

Increased pressure on risk industries to reduce their negative impact on society has resulted in an increasing volume of ‘risk’ and ‘responsibility’ communications from interest groups known as Social Aspects Public Relations Organisations (SAPROs). SAPROs have been criticised for being the ‘front groups’ of risk industries (e.g., the tobacco, gambling, sugar and alcohol industries). Danielle Brady•ARTICLE•Contention•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 9

The struggle to save the Beeliar Wetlands, an urban remnant bushland in Perth, Western Australia, demonstrates elements of both urban social and urban environmental movements. At the end of 2016, 30 years of objection to the continuation of the Roe Highway development (Roe 8) culminated in months of intense protest leading up to a state election and a cessation of work in 2017. Open Access•Rachel Joanne Pietracatella, Danielle Brady•ARTICLE•Media International Australia•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 23

Public health literature proposes that the Australian alcohol industry-funded organisation DrinkWise is a Social Aspects Public Relations Organisation (SAPRO) that favours industry over public interests by deploying ineffective alcohol harm reduction strategies. This research addresses a gap in the critical public relations literature by investigating these claims through an examination of DrinkWise's source media content. Content and rhetorical …

  • Do Australian children trust their parents more than peers when seeking support for online activities

    Lelia Green, Danielle Brady•ARTICLE•Continuum•2013•References: 3

This paper considers the relative importance of parents and peers in supporting Australian children's use of the internet and whether those choices for support change with age and gender. The paper reports findings from AU Kids Online, a satellite study to EU Kids Online. Parents were found to be the primary support to Australian children using the internet, with peer support increasingly important as children get older. The potential of these tw…
