  • Genome-wide analysis identifies genetic effects on reproductive success and ongoing natural selection at the Fads locus

    Open Access•Iain Mathieson, Felix R Day et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 70

  • Identification of 371 genetic variants for age at first sex and birth linked to externalising behaviour

    Open Access•Melinda C Mills, Felix C Tropf et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2021•Cited by: 10•References: 81

  • Genome-wide association study identifies 48 common genetic variants associated with handedness

    Open Access•Gabriel Cuellar-Partida, Joyce Y Tung et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 68

Handedness has been extensively studied because of its relationship with language and the over-representation of left-handers in some neurodevelopmental disorders. Using data from the UK Biobank, 23andMe and the International Handedness Consortium, we conducted a genome-wide association meta-analysis of handedness (N = 1,766,671). We found 41 loci associated (P < 5 × 10−8) with left-handedness and 7 associated with ambidexterity. Tissue-enrichmen…

  • Improving Supreme Court Forecasting Using Boosted Decision Trees

    Open Access•Aaron R Kaufman, Peter Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Political Analysis•2019•Cited by: 7•References: 18

Though used frequently in machine learning, boosted decision trees are largely unused in political science, despite many useful properties. We explain how to use one variant of boosted decision trees, AdaBoosted decision trees (ADTs), for social science predictions. We illustrate their use by examining a well-known political prediction problem, predicting U.S. Supreme Court rulings. We find that our ADT approach outperforms existing predictive mo…

  • Genetic evidence of assortative mating in humans

    Open Access•M R Robinson, Aaron Kleinman et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2017•Cited by: 23•References: 49

  • Genetic variants associated with subjective well-being, depressive symptoms, and neuroticism identified through genome-wide analyses

Open Access•Lifelines Cohort Study, Aysu Okbay et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Genetics•2016

  • Genomics, Telomere Length, Epigenetics, and Metabolomics in the Nurses’ Health Studies

Mary K Townsend, Hugues Aschard et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2016•References: 43

Objectives. To review the contribution of the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and NHS II to genomics, epigenetics, and metabolomics research. Methods. We performed a narrative review of the publications of the NHS and NHS II between 1990 and 2016 based on biospecimens, including blood and tumor tissue, collected from participants. Results. The NHS has contributed to the discovery of genetic loci influencing more than 45 complex human phenotypes, inclu…

  • The PhenX Toolkit

    Open Access•Carol M Hamilton, Lisa C Strader et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Epidemiology•2011

The potential for genome-wide association studies to relate phenotypes to specific genetic variation is greatly increased when data can be combined or compared across multiple studies. To facilitate replication and validation across studies, RTI International (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (Bethesda, Maryland) are collaborating on the consensus measures for Phenotypes and eXposures (PhenX…

  • Effect of Apolipoprotein E Genotype and Saturated Fat Intake on Plasma Lipids and Myocardial Infarction in the Central Valley of Costa Rica

    Yadong Yang, Edward A Ruiz-Narváez et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2007•Cited by: 2

We assessed the effect of APOE polymorphisms -491 A/T, C112R (APOE*4), and R158C (APOE*2) and saturated fat intake on plasma lipid levels and risk of myocardial infarction (MI) in 1,927 case subjects and 1,927 population-based control subjects matched for age, sex, and residence, all living in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. A significant gene-diet interaction (p = 0.0157) was observed. High saturated fat intake was associated with a 49% increa…
