Patterns of Military Control in the Indonesian Higher Central Bureaucracy
This article analyzes current military penetration of Indonesia's higher central government bureaucracy. Any civilian or military officeholder in this bureaucracy is referred to as a karyawan. The article focuses on the incumbent Cabinet and topmost echelon of civil service officials. Findings are based on public biographies of these persons and published specialized secondary sources on the Indonesian military. The principal conclusions follow b…

The recent growth of research on conflict has been stimulated principally by the work of game theorists and psychologists.2 Relatively few recent contributions have been made by sociologists whose interest in conflict is of long standing (cf.
