  • I am Robot, Your Health Adviser for Older Adults

Open Access•Ioanna Giorgi, Aniello Minutolo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 11

Artificial intelligence and robotic solutions are seeing rapid development for use across multiple occupations and sectors, including health and social care. As robots grow more prominent in our work and home environments, whether people would favour them in receiving useful advice becomes a pressing question. In the context of human–robot interaction (HRI), little is known about people’s advice-taking behaviour and trust in the advice of robots.…

  • Maternal nutritional status and offspring childlessness

Matteo Manfredini, Marco Breschi et al.•ARTICLE•Population Studies•2022•References: 71

The role of maternal nutrition in affecting offspring fertility, through alteration of foetal programming, has been demonstrated in animal-based experiments. However, results from human populations appear inconsistent and sometimes contradictory, likely because they have been based on single famine events. In this paper, we adopt a different approach. We combine official annual time series of daily nutrient availability with a sample of women's r…

  • Sars-CoV-2 Infections and Covid-19 Fatality

Open Access•Marco Pota, Andrea Pota et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

COVID-19 is one of the most important problems for public health, according to the number of deaths associated to this pathology reported so far. However, from the epidemiological point of view, the dimension of the problem is still unknown, since the number of actual cases of SARS-CoV-2 infected people is underestimated, due to limited testing. This paper aims at estimating the actual Infection Fatality Ratio (number of deaths with respect to th…

  • Reproductive Change in Transitional Italy

  • Fertility transition and social stratification in the town of Alghero, Sardinia (1866-1935)

    Open Access•Marco Breschi, Massimo Esposito et al.•ARTICLE•Demographic Research•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 31

Despite the large amount of research on European fertility transition, the mechanisms of this demographic process are still poorly understood. This is particularly true in the Italian demographic experience, especially for some regions

  • Widowhood and Remarriage in Sardinia, Alghero, 1866-1925

Open Access•Stanislao Mazzoni, Marco Breschi et al.•ARTICLE•Population (English Edition•2013•References: 11

This paper focuses on remarriage in Sardinia from the years following national unification (1861) until the first decades of the twentieth century. The marriage pattern on the island was different from the one that predominated in Italy. As early as the High Middle Ages, marriage was celebrated within the context of a distinctive property and inheritance regime, and Sardinian women played an important role in the management of the family and its …

  • Upgrade of the CO 2 Direct Absorption Method for Low-Level 14 C Liquid Scintillation Counting

Open Access•Chiara Canducci, Paolo Bartolomei et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 9

A new system for CO 2 absorption and liquid scintillation counting (LSC) was designed and developed along with its inherent measurement protocol for radiocarbon analysis in gaseous emissions, fuels, and biobased products. CO 2 is chemically trapped as a carbamate in a suitable absorbing solution (3-methoxy-propyl-amine), gravimetrically measured, and analyzed by LSC (using a Quantulus TM 1220) to determine the 14 C content. The use of cryogenic t…

  • Veuvage et remariage en Sardaigne, Alghero, 1866-1925

Open Access•Stanislao Mazzoni, Marco Breschi et al.•ARTICLE•Population•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 25

  • The Sardinian experience of the lowest Italian infant mortality at the turn of the twentieth century. True or false empirical evidence
