Algorithmic frictions: How couriers shape and subvert on-demand delivery platforms in lisbon
This article advances the conceptualization of algorithmic frictions by examining how couriers navigate the intersection of algorithmic systems and urban spaces on on-demand delivery platforms. Drawing on an autoethnographic account of courier work in Lisbon in 2019 that was subsequently interpreted collaboratively and triangulated with other methods, the study illustrates how frictions arise from the interactions between platforms, local urban c…
The role of mental toughness and academic satisfaction in suppressing first-year students’ intentions to dropout of university
The urgent need to reduce the substantial and persistent incidence of higher education dropout, especially during the first academic year, calls for further research to identify the core predictors of students’ withdrawal intentions and actual behaviors. Specifically, more research is needed to assess whether and how students’ personal resources and academic attitudes interplay in shaping this phenomenon. This study addresses these questions by e…
Dificuldades Enfrentadas Pelos Familiares E Cuidadores De Uma Pessoa Com Alzheimer: Uma Revisão Integrativa
Unwrapping the Influence of Proactive Personality on Job Satisfaction During Organizational Socialization: Examining the Intervening Effects of Newcomers’ Perceptions of Person–Environment Fit
This study focuses on the mediating role of person–environment fit on the relationship between proactive personality and job satisfaction, during the organizational socialization stage. Specifically, it tests the role of person–organization fit and person–job fit, operationalized through its specific subdimensions of demands–abilities fit and needs–supplies (N–S) fit in this relationship. Relying upon a predictive design, a sample of 151 trainees…
Mapping personality markers in a Portuguese sample: The factor structure, reliability and incremental validity of the Big Five Mini-Markers
This study reports the psychometric characteristics of a Portuguese form of the 40-item Big Five Mini-Markers, relying upon a cross-sectional design with a sample of 673 Portuguese undergraduates from a Portuguese public university. Results supported the five-factor structure of the translated version and the internal consistency levels of the sub-scales were equivalent to the original version. However, nine items were identified as problematic a…
Predicting well-being at work during Covid-19: Examining the incremental validity of core self-evaluations and the mediating effect of perceived strengths use
The Covid-19 pandemic affected work dynamics across economies, creating a need to map which individual and job-related resources organizations should rely on to support their workforce in dealing with challenging job demands, while preserving positive levels of performance and well-being. The current study is carried out with this purpose and empirically tests whether core self-evaluations play a relevant role over proactive personality in predic…
The bandwidth dilemma applied to trait emotional intelligence: Comparing the contribution of emotional intelligence factor with its facets for predicting global job satisfaction
Portuguese Version of Parker’s () Role Breadth Self-Efficacy Scale: Examining Its Factor Structure, Reliability and Validity to Predict Innovative Work Behaviour
Drawing upon previous theorizing and empirical research efforts supporting the importance of role breadth self-efficacy (RBSE) as a key motivational antecedent of proactive forms of behaviour at work, including individual innovation, this paper reports the process of building and validating a Portuguese version of Parker's RBSE scale. Data from two studies with independent samples of employees ( N = 103, N = 148) pertaining to an information tech…
Urban experimentation and smart cities: A Foucauldian and autonomist approach
This paper provides an analytical framework capable of critically analysing the currently hegemonic phenomenon of smart cities in the contemporary metropolis, particularly concerning their assumptions and potential effects. Using a critical perspective through the scope of governmentality studies and autonomist literature, an analytical framework is presented that allows for the comprehension and critical analysis of the phenomenon in question. B…
Reconstruction and generation of virtual heritage sites
ArchHouseGenerator – A Framework for House Generation
The manual creation of virtual environments is a demanding and costly task. With the increasing demand for more complex models in different areas, such as the design of virtual worlds, video games and computer animated movies the need to generate them automatically has become more necessary than ever. This paper presents a framework for the automatic generation of houses based on architectural rules. This approach has some innovating features, inc…
