From Challenge to Confidence
Trust plays a fundamental role in almost every social domain, especially when society is facing multi-level threats. However, the impact of threats on trust and its underlying mechanism remains poorly examined. To address this gap, we conducted a series of studies with an array of methodologies spanning cross-cultural surveys, longitudinal designs, and experimental manipulations. Compelling evidence demonstrated that threats (particularly pandemi…
The relationship between teacher professional development and students’ social and emotional skills
Integrated Assessment of Security Risk Considering Police Resources
The existing research on security risk often focuses on specific types of crime, overlooking an integrated assessment of security risk by leveraging existing police resources. Thus, we draw on crime geography theories, integrating public security business data, socioeconomic data, and spatial analysis techniques, to identify integrated risk points and areas by examining the distribution of police resources and related factors and their influence …
Meritocratic Educational Beliefs, Achievement Expectation Gap, and Middle-Class Parental Anxiety
Combination treatment of Danggui Buxue Decoction and endothelial progenitor cells can enhance angiogenesis in rats with focal cerebral ischemia and hyperlipidemia
Our findings provided that DBD administration combined with EPCs transplantation promoted reconstruction of nervous function. This was achieved by enhancing expression of the growth factors related to anti-apoptosis mechanisms and angiogenesis thanks to regulation of the PI3K/Akt/BAD and ERK signaling pathways, and might be relate to the lowering of TC and LDL-C levels
Foregone Opportunities and Choosing Not to Act
Inaction inertia is the phenomenon that forgoing an initial attractive opportunity decreases the likelihood of taking a subsequent opportunity that is less attractive, even when the subsequent opportunity still offers positive value. We conducted three preregistered replications of Tykocinski et al.’s Experiments 1 and 2’s four scenarios in four samples ( N = 1,555). We found consistent findings across samples, with the inaction inertia effect de…
Rapport Management in the German–Chinese Workplace
In intercultural communication research, rapport management has been studied primarily with a focus on the conflicts and misunderstandings resulting from culturally different conventions. The present study, however, identifies interculturality as a possible resource for successful rapport management. An analysis of German–Chinese conversations in the workplace shows that employees use an extended linguistic and communicative repertoire that they …
Moderating effects of decision autonomy and culture novelty on the relationship between expatriate manager leadership styles and host country managers’ job satisfaction
While the use of expatriate managers to control and manage the foreign subsidiary is well recognized, there is a paucity of literature that considers how expatriate managers’ leadership behaviors affect host country nationals (HCNs). By incorporating leadership contingency perspective into expatriation literature, we examine the boundary conditions of two leadership (planning and consulting) behaviors on HCN managers’ job attitude (i.e., job sati…
Retrospective and prospective hindsight bias
Regret-action effect
An episodic framework of outgroup interaction processing
Cross-cultural research has traditionally emphasized predicting adjustment, treating it as a level to be achieved more than a change process to be understood and controlled. The lack of focus on process integration has inhibited our understanding of precisely why and how adjustment processes unfold and ultimately cause (dys)functional change in criteria. In response, we review the motives and processes of cross-cultural adjustment and integrate t…
