  • Increasing opportunities for movement in Nova Scotia, Canada

Open Access•Emily Burke, Sara Kirk et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Introduction: (CoM) is a four-year (2022-2026) community-wide initiative designed to increase opportunities for low-barrier, less-structured movement (e.g., walking, wheeling, cycling, gardening, etc.) through policy, built-and socia-environment actions and cross-sector partnerships. Objectives: To describe the CoM Phase 1 actions across four Nova Scotian communities, detail the participatory evaluation approach, and share early implementation in…

  • The process of student engagement in Health-Promoting Schools

Open Access•Julia Kontak, Becky Feicht et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education•2026

Purpose Evidence supports meaningful student engagement in Health-Promoting Schools (HPS) approaches as an essential condition for enhancing student well-being, yet little is known about this process. This study sought to interpret the process of student engagement in HPS through the perspectives of Youth Engagement Coordinators (YECs). Design/methodology/approach This qualitative exploratory study took place in Nova Scotia, Canada where HPS has …

  • The Late Glacial Advance of the James Lobe, South Dakota, Suggests Climate-Driven Laurentide Ice Sheet Behavior

    Open Access•Stephanie Heath, Thomas V Lowell•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2025

The relationship between climate and independent glacier masses is now understood, but what is not understood is how ice sheets respond during times of rapid climate change. At its maximum extent the southern Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) was sourced from two domes that terminated in multiple lobes across central North America. The extent and timing of the eastern lobes, which were sourced from the Labrador Dome are relatively well constrained. Alth…

  • Surface exposure dating of the Pierre Sublobe of the James Lobe, Laurentide Ice Sheet

    Open Access•Stephanie Heath, Thomas V Lowell et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

The Laurentide Ice Sheet of the last glacial period terminated in several lobes along its southern margin. The timing of maximum extent may have varied among the terminal lobes owing to internal ice sheet dynamics and spatially variable external controls. Some terminal ice lobes, such as the westernmost James Lobe, remain poorly dated. To determine the timing of maximum ice extent in this key location, we have mapped glacial deposits left by the …

  • Facilitators and Challenges to Organizational Capacity Building in Heart Health Promotion

    Open Access•Christine Joffres, Stephanie Heath et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 10

The authors describe the facilitators and challenges to a multisectoral initiative aiming at building organizational capacity for heart health promotion in Nova Scotia, Canada. The research process was guided by participatory action research. The study included 21 organizations from diverse sectors. Participant selection for the data collection was purposive. The authors collected data through organizational reflection logs and one-to-one semistr…
