Chinese Bioethics of Trust and Autonomy: How Doctors Make Patient Referrals After the Introduction of a Two‐Way Referral System
Based on 24 semi‐structured interviews with secondary hospital doctors, we empirically investigate how a new two‐way referral system in China influences the alignment between referring doctors, patients, and doctors who receive referrals. In particular, we focus on how this system addresses the challenges of trust, autonomy, and bioethics during the shared decision‐making process. Our research shows that the two‐way referral system has spawned ne…
HIV-related stigma and self-disclosure among older people living with HIV: Chain mediating roles of perceived social support and acceptance of illness
Self-disclosure represents a pivotal challenge for older people living with HIV (PLWH) in China, who are frequently impacted by HIV-related stigma. As such, the current study aims to explore the relationship between HIV-related stigma and self-disclosure, and specifically examine the chain-mediating roles of perceived social support and acceptance of illness. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 282 older PLWH, recruited from Wuxi, China. …
Anxiety development trajectories in junior high students: Effects of family functioning and gender, and prediction of non-suicidal self-injury

Introducing the Face framework: Rethinking age-friendly communities through lived experiences in regional Australia
With the unprecedented growth of the ageing population and increasing urbanisation, age-friendly community (AFC) initiatives have gained significant global momentum. However, existing AFC research has largely prioritised the perspectives of implementers in metropolitan or rural contexts, leaving a critical gap in understanding how community members, particularly those in regional areas, conceptualise age-friendliness and express their needs and p…
The impact of external shocks on volatility persistence and market efficiency of the foreign exchange rate regime: Evidence from Malawi
This study examines the nexus between external shocks and micro-transmission aspects of volatility persistence and market efficiency for the Malawian Foreign exchange market. Garch-type models are employed on monthly data stretching back to June 2011 through to October 2021. Results of the study show the presence of two structural breaks for the volatility series and one structural break for the return series that fall within the rolling window f…

The influence of exercise adherence on peace of mind among Chinese college students: A moderated chain mediation model
Introduction Exercising adherence constitutes a pivotal approach for college students to maintain physical well-being, while peace of mind serves as a crucial indicator of their psychological health. However, few previous studies have delved into the relationship between these two variables. Our study endeavors to investigate the association between the exercise adherence and the peace of mind of college students. Methods The Exercise Adherence Q…

How do students' self‐regulation skills affect learning satisfaction and continuous intention within desktop‐based virtual reality? A structural equation modelling approach
Virtual reality, as an excellent supportive instructional technology, has gained increasing attention from educators and professionals, where desktop‐based virtual reality (DVR) is broadly adopted due to its affordability and accessibility. However, when evaluating students' learning experiences such as flow experiences in DVR environments, most studies adopt a single construct (the total score of flow experience) rather than multiple constructs …

Scopolamine Has Different Influences on Spatial Reference Memory and Spatial Working Memory in Rats: Scopolamine Has Different Influences on Spatial Reference Memory and Spatial Working Memory in Rats

Rationalizing beliefs
This paper studies belief formation for two kinds of religion. The main conclusion is that they follow different mechanisms. Specifically, for religions relying on supernatural powers, people formulate beliefs based on their prior beliefs and experiences, and they may claim their beliefs for some realistic considerations. For religions based on self-sufficiency, mainly Buddhism, beliefs are formed by an awareness of suffering and dependent arisin…

Teaching English as a foreign language to primary school students in East Asia: Challenges and future prospects
With the spread of economic globalization and the accelerating demand for English, governments in East Asian countries have been updating their English-in-education policies so as to enhance the quality of English education in the region (Hu & McKay, 2012). Of all these policies, the introduction of English as a compulsory subject at younger and younger ages is ‘possibly the world's biggest policy development in education’ (Johnstone, 2009: 33). …

Threshold Regression With a Threshold Boundary
This article studies computation, estimation, inference, and testing for linearity in threshold regression with a threshold boundary. We first put forward a new algorithm to ease the computation of the threshold boundary, and develop the asymptotics for the least squares estimator in both the fixed-threshold-effect framework and the small-threshold-effect framework. We also show that the inverting-likelihood-ratio method is not suitable to constr…
