  • Resurrection of the Body and Cryonics

    Open Access•Claire Mercer, Calvin Mercer•ARTICLE•Religions•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 9

The Christian doctrine of resurrection of the body is employed to interpret the cryonics program of preserving legally dead people with the plan to restore them when future medicine can effectively address the cause of death. Cryonics is not accepted by mainstream science, and even if the vision is never realized, it is worth the effort to use it as a thought experiment to test the capability of the Christian theological system to address this is…

  • The Hood Mysticism Scale

Open Access•Claire Mercer, Calvin Mercer et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2001

Omitting this response option requires respondents to make a …

This study of 411 undergraduates utilized the short form of the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) and a modified version of the Hood Mysticism Scale (M-scale) to examine the relationship of gender orientation with mystical experience. The hypothesis - that participants classified on the BSRI as feminine or androgynous each would score significantly higher on mysticism than persons classified as masculine - was confirmed. The suggestion is made that p…

  • Aπoσteλλein and Πemπein in John

    Open Access•Claire Mercer, Calvin Mercer•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•1990

Scholars who have commented on John's use of the two verbs range from those who view the words as having very different meanings to the recent trend of seeing no difference. The following analysis argues for reversing that trend, and in the process sharpens our understanding of an important part of John's vocabulary
