The impact of doctoral study on university lecturers' construction of self within a changing higher education policy context
This paper explores the impact of lecturers’ individual current doctoral study on their own and collective constructions of self in a changing Higher Education (HE) policy context. Embodiment and becoming in secondary drama classrooms: The effects of neoliberal education cultures on performances of self and of drama texts
This article explores the effects of neoliberalism and performative educational cultures on secondary school drama classrooms. We consider the ways Deleuze and Guattari’s schizoanalysis and Butler’s concept of gender performance enable us to chart the embodied, relational, spatial and affective energies that inhabit the often neoliberal and heterosexually striated space of the drama classroom. These post-humanist analyses are useful methodologica…

For example, in Australia, the 2013 landslide victory of the conservative Abbott government resulted in an almost immediate slashing of funding for education (A$1.1 b) and the arts (A$87.1 m) (Riddle …

Reading to do: Creating contingent action plans
Three experiments are reported which examine the action plans readers create for written instructions containing conditionals ( if, if not, unless ). Experiment 1 shows, from the pattern of errors and latencies with True/False items, that if not is represented as a positive action and negative condition, whereas unless is represented as a negative action and positive condition (‘Do not if...’), even when the materials permit other recoding option…

Effects of response instructions and question style on the ease of completing forms
Three series of experiments are reported. Each series is concerned with a different aspect of efficient data collection via formalized question and answer protocols. In series 1 it is found that people are faster endorsing an answer (e.g. circle what does apply) than negating one (e.g. delete what does not apply). In series 2 it is found that people are faster responding to statements offering multiple alternatives within a sentence frame (e.g. I…
