Connected Dads, Healthy Teens
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy of Connected Dads, Healthy Teens , a 4-week online father-teen program designed to promote healthy communication and decision-making about sex and relationships. A pilot sample of 53 fathers and 50 of their high-school aged teens participated in this program and took pre- and post-test surveys. Participants reported high levels of program feasibilit…
Exploring the impact of caregiving on the children of military caregivers
This article examines the caregiving tasks performed by children who live in military caregiving families and how these may impact their well-being. A cross-sectional survey of youth (aged nine to 17 years) and their parents (N = 202) was conducted to assess caregiving tasks and symptoms of anxiety/depression, antisocial behaviors, school outcomes, and perceived support. Children demonstrated some resiliency in their psychological and behavioral …

Using Implementation Mapping to Build Organizational Readiness
Organizational readiness is essential for high-quality implementation of innovations (programs, policies, practices, or processes). The R = MC 2 heuristic describes three readiness components necessary for implementation—the general functioning of the organization (general capacities), the ability to deliver a particular innovation (innovation-specific capacities), and the motivation to implement the innovation. In this article, we describe how w…
The Healthy Native Youth Implementation Toolbox
Background American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth experience serious disparities in sexual and reproductive health, including the highest teen birth rate among racial/ethnic groups, and disproportionate rates of sexually transmitted infections (STI), including HIV. A growing number of evidence-based programs (EBPs) that integrate the strengths and cultural teachings of Native communities exist. Yet, multiple factors, including lack of tr…
Exploring School Staff Perceptions Relating to Animals and Their Involvement in Interventions to Support Mental Health
Given the growing awareness of the health benefits of human-animal interactions, the use of animal-assisted interventions (AAIs) in educational settings has increased over the years. While many school districts are now considering or utilizing AAIs, the literature investigating AAI-related perceptions among school stakeholders is limited with previous studies focusing on evaluating specific programs. To address this gap, a qualitative exploratory…
Moving from Needs Assessment to Intervention
Talk with fathers about sex and relationships can support teens' health, but its impact is limited as few fathers talk with their teens about sexual issues. Needs assessment and fathers' input on intervention content and structure can guide the development of programs that support fathers' health-promoting talk with their teen children about sex and relationships. In the present study, we explored fathers' goals in their talk with teens about sex…
Investigation of the role of sleep and physical activity for chronic disease prevalence and incidence in older Irish adults
Worse sleep quality and lower physical activity were associated with higher odds of chronic diseases. Interventions to improve sleep and physical activity may improve health outcomes
Assessment of the Reach, Usability, and Perceived Impact of “Talking Is Power”
Lessons learned during the design, dissemination, and evaluation of the resource's usability, reach, and perceived impact may be of interest to other Indigenous communities who are in the process of adapting and/or implementing similar approaches
Comparisons of disease cluster patterns, prevalence and health factors in the USA, Canada, England and Ireland
This information can be used to better understand the complex nature of multimorbidity and identify appropriate prevention and management strategies for treating multimorbidity across countries
Socio‐Ecological Factors Associated With Students' Perceived Impact of an Evidence‐Based Sexual Health Education Curriculum
BACKGROUND: Although schools often implement evidence-based sexual health education programs to address sexual and reproductive health disparities, multiple factors may influence program effectiveness. METHODS: Using student-reported perceived impact measures as a proxy for program effectiveness, we employed a socio-ecological approach to examine student, teacher, school, and district factors associated with greater perceived impact of It's Your …
Adolescent Dating Violence Prevention Program for Early Adolescents
Objectives. To test the efficacy of Me & You, a multilevel technology-enhanced adolescent dating violence (DV) intervention, in reducing DV perpetration and victimization among ethnic-minority early adolescent youths. We assessed secondary impact for specific DV types and psychosocial outcomes. Methods. We conducted a group-randomized controlled trial of 10 middle schools from a large urban school district in Southeast Texas in 2014 to 2015. We u…
Prevalence and Correlates of the Perpetration of Cyber Dating Abuse among Early Adolescents
The Context of Sexual Decisions and Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Factors Related to Sexual Initiation Among Female Military-Dependent Youth
Despite the sizable population of military-dependent youth (MDY) in the United States and the military stressors they experience (e.g., relocations, parental deployment), little is known about MDY's sexual behavior, especially about the perceived role that military stressors play in their sexual decisions, such as the decision to initiate sex. We conducted 25 semistructured, in-depth interviews with sexually experienced female MDY aged 15 to 19 y…
Associations Between Parental Deployment, Relocation, and Risky Sexual Behaviors Among a Clinic-Based Sample of Military-Dependent Youth
